Interesting review and testing. I agree with your thought regarding Tri-Color lines. Recently, I purchased a two-color version of Perception and added two six-inch black zones using a Sharpe. The first zone was at the midpoint of the head and the second was at the end of the head. Doing this approximates the benefit of the tri-color version and makes it easier to find the optimal load point when casting. Here's my opinion regarding SA vs Rio lines. For freshwater, I prefer SA, in particular their Smooth Creek line. However, for saltwater, I like Rio with SlickCast. Comparing Bonefish Quickshooter to Orvis Saltwater Allrounder (with AST Plus) makes it easy to see and feel just how much better the Rio line is when casting. For those who aren't aware, Orvis owns SA.

Maybe 4 or 5 years of these regs.puts enough spawners on the beds to maintain this abundance with proper management thereafter. Dfo. Yeah iknow...

Just came across your channel. Very nice work. I’m from SW Pennsylvania and use a lot of jigs for steelhead in Erie. I’ve thought about trying them in Alaska on our trips up there the past few years but guides said won’t work. Have you ever used them in Alaska, specifically Kenia River?

If you’re scared of your Florida cutting through your mono why not just use double uni knot?
@PacificAnglerTV
@PacificAnglerTV 22 күн бұрын
The uni knot is amazing and we use it a lot but the tag ends come off at 45 or even less so they can cause catch points for double over tangles.

I'm a fish pathologist, Outdoor & Science writer, part time river guide since 1978 and a very successful Steelhead and Salmon angler since 1973. Moreover, I used to have respect for your channel. Now I must really question your knowledge or lack thereof, after hearing you say, "Salmon rarely feed on the surface"!!! The Greatest majority of us, fish for Salmon and Steelhead, in Freshwater, not in the Ocean!! Anadromous fish, absolutely Do Not Feed after returning to their rivers of origin to spawn!! That's true for all anadromous fish of the genus Oncorhynchus and Sea Trout (Salmo trutta), plus Atlantic Salmon!!!! Wow it seems that everyone with a KZbin channel, has now become a Self-professed expert!! I'm certain that I won't get one of those cute "social media-Hearts" from you and of course, I'm unsubscribing from your channel!!

Lol. I just read this post. I don’t usually bother with funny negative post like this but I think this is more a miss understanding of what I was meaning 😂 I get beginners coming into the shop all the time talking about salmon rising and “feeding” on the surface of a given river. You are right this does not happen. But we can get them to “Feed” eat a fly on the surface. I have caught lots of coho in rivers on wogs and poppers. It’s hard but very possible. I have also had jacks on remote systems eat dead drifted mayfly patterns. I think that any time a salmon or steelhead puts a fly or lure in its mouth they are triggered by a complicated mix of feeding / aggression instincts. In this video I was referring to the act of putting something in their mouth, weather it’s a “feeding” instinct or an aggression response. I have read a number of detailed studies on the topic and current science doesn’t come to a conclusive answer of why salmon “eat” in rivers but all of the studies look at feeding instinct and aggression instincts triggering them to eat.

This is a great video! I've been fly fishing on and off for many many years, largely self-taught. Never have another "set of eyes" to watch me cast and offer tips and advice. Gets frustrating. Seeing small improvements tho but crossed a big hurdle last summer on casting thanks to these types of vids!!

honestly no 1 pack can solve it all. it just deppends on your needs. i have 1 of each and rotate them in and out as needed. if its a quick trip, hippack wins. if its a day trip sling is a great choice. if its a long hike for the day, backpack+chest pack is the way im going to go.

Tied this up in a big 2 station intruder pattern two nights ago. First light, six steps down into the run and a chrome hen grabbed that thing 2 feet off the bank and sent the hardy screaming. This is by far my fav black and blue pattern. Looks absolutely amazing in the water. The choking black and blue MS intruder for the win 👌

Considering some of the places we find ourselves, it is a good idea to also carry a Garmin InReach Mini, especially if you have clients. If things do go south we are often located in areas that help could be hours or even days away. Now imagine you're in a deep canyon and have zero cell signal. The mini is light, tough, waterproof and easy to operate.

Im embarrassed to say the number of fishing packs i own.... 2 lumbar packs, 2 chest packs, a vest and a sling bag. I find myself using the vest, sling, and smallest chest pack the most. The best advice for anyone new to the sport is to go somewhere and try stuff out! I ordered all of mine online and of course used them before findjng what works for me. So now im stuck with 6 packs and only use 3 of them...

I’ve found a way to get the best of the vest and a pack. It’s not cheap but it works for me. I attached the front panels from the Patagonia stealth convertible vest to the Stealth 30l pack. That gives me access to everything I need when I’m in the water and capacity for a rain jacket, lunch and a water bottle. This has become my go to for most days on the river and when I go boat fishing I just unclip the vest panels on the from and I’m left with a traditional 30l pack.
