I have been researching the history of the school and am fascinated. Is there any way to get in contact with the owners of the property to go tour the school/interview them on its history?

Hi, John Paul--my understanding is that the nuns who manage the property sold it to a developer. I don't know the status of the property since I haven't been there in a while. Sorry I couldn't help you further.

Very Nice! In th late 70's I was lucky enough to see the chapel when it was still be used some. After the earthquake they blocked it off completely and now no one can see it due to gates. Very unique place in Powhatan along with Bellmeade next door.

I am glad you enjoyed the video, Lummie! I had not heard that about the chapel. Thanks for sharing.

I recently started researching my family history and it's taken me to Powhatan and Cumberland County, Va. Im not sure if any of my relatives went to this school but I will be researching it to find out. My family are the Browns and Palmores.

Joshua Lovehall Hey, Joshua, my wife is from Powhatan and she knows a lot of Browns and Palmores. If you are looking for someone to talk to who knows the people and the history I can suggest my father-in-law. I can put you in touch if you’d like.

I attended St Emma Military Academy from 1965-1967. We attended socials with the Ladies of St Francis. It was a different time in the history of the south and our nation. Not necessarily a good time!

For those who may not have heard, the property of both St. Francis and St. Emma’s Military Academy have been put up for sale by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The announcement was made in early May 2016.richmondfreepress.com/news/2016/may/05/nuns-sell-st-emmas-st-francis-property-powhatan/

Thanks for posting this... I had known of the school as I live near Richmond, VA... I think you made too many quick cuts or edits in the first half.. I like the longer views toward the end... The Equal Rights Amendment was never ratified.. I assume you meant the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ...

My name is Peter Hurd. I'm a graduate of St. Emma, class of 1966. This video bought a tear to my eye, an explosion of memories, and an appreciation for the talents and efforts of those who produced it. We are privileged (attendees and graduates of both schools) to have been exposed this experience. peta skeeta '66

@DigitalMaxx18 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I would love to get the opportunity to document St. Emma from the air. I am in the process of reaching out to the sisters to let know about this video and requesting permission to fly over the rest of the property. I will let you of my progress. Thank you for your comments!
