I am just hitting double digits in my marathon build where I need to focus on hydration and nutrition. I tried Maurten gel. I find it super sweet. I ordered a couple individual gels from the feed to try. I am going to try the Maurten drink mix later this week. Great work on the 50k 👊🏿

@@Runfast45 Good work on your training. I’ve tried the Maurten gels before and liked the taste it was just the texture that was different to me. Interested to hear how the drink tastes/works for you. 😎👍🏻

I have been using Skratch High Carb and Gu Roctane. I generally do not use gels but I carry a small soft flask with maple syrup in it.

@@BFF_Runner How do you like the GU roctane? Higher carbs I believe. I was looking at them yesterday to help on the hotter days.

@@FUDNF The flavor in the GU Roctane is milder which I like. Also the carb load is not as aggressive as the Skratch High carb, which works better for me.

Just took my first run today and I love 'em already! However, I was trying to take the baskets off (to make them easier to get in and out of my waist pack) and when to the directions. The illustration shows just unscrewing them. Even with pliers, I couldn't budge them. Any clue from your experience?

Good luck at lost Souls. I wondered what the weather was like for the 60 km bunch. I did the 10 km and got stuck in cold and drizzle the whole way. I was happy I chose to wear long sleeves and a toque. The Calgary Marathon is one of my favourite events.

I saw this popping g off on Strava and wondered what the lesson was going to be from it. Nice work by the way. I do use a single bud most times and it's a ton of history podcast (which I failed in high-school multiple times). Other times it's just self reflection on the longer run days. I settled on Jabra Elite as the acoustics are way above average, they are light, and they stay put. I think the newer version can be alternated separately charging on the go.

Beautiful looking dog, and he looks very well trained! I’ll be looking for a dog to run/go on hikes with me in about a year, I’ve also looked at Dutch shepherds, and Belgian malinios, did you research these dogs when making your decision?

Thank you! I didn’t look into the Dutch shepherds but I love the Belgian Malinios. The only thing I’ve heard about them is their level of intensity is quite high and they need A lot more work and training then I thought was in my capability. Incredibly smart though and love having a job.

So run like Goggins to be in a wheelchair in your senior years. Goggins has not much insight into training science. He knows how to push himself and others but he does so ignoring all knowledge there is and by that ruining his and the body of his clients. There are more healthy ways to reach the same goals intelligent. I know some of his clients stories and he can be glad that he hasnt killed some by accident. His knees are destroyed right now and he can only run in pain. Completely unnecessary if he would have aknowledged tapering, resting and taken a coach instead of playacting one. If your constantly functionally overloading yourself in training you will destroy your body. Sure you can reprogram yourself but most important aspect is intensifying training in a healthy way.. This will not only strenghten your body but your mind adapts automatically to the higher training load. Instead of just pushing tell yourself before the session to not listen to your brain & feelings right now as its not a truth but just preprogrammed bias and reserve judgement for later, but during the run listen to your body and take warning signs serious. Knowledge is power to mental strenght not ignoring what your body is trying to tell you.

Good points and thanks for taking the time to share. I agree on balance and also knowing your body. For me I know there has been times when I quit way before I should have which is why this mindset has been helping my training. I also think that running properly and training ensures that your body holds up. I’ve been running for 30 years and my body is in good shape and knees are fine. Thanks again for a thoughtful comment and contribution to the topic.

I have the Leki Cross Trail FX Superlite's and am about to use them for Minotaur and then I'll be using them for Lost Souls 100k. They are incredible so far! Especially if you've just used more traditional hiking poles. The glove is fabulous and is super easy to use once you've test ran them them a couple times! I'd say these have bothered my hands less than the traditional hiking pole straps - you still feel some wear on your hands. But I haven't gotten the same awful blisters like I did with other poles. I also have the Salomon vest and quiver and these slide in e-z!
