Beautiful. Looking to go to my first celtic connections in 2025 .

I think my dad’s side of his family is from this area, migrated to the states in the early 19th century or earlier. But wanted to see what they saw 100s of years ago. I loved the video and how quaint everything is compared to Houston, Texas.

His accent is intriguing. Sounds mostly Scottish with some Northumbrian. Quite distinctive.
@EASYTIGER106 жыл бұрын
I've been struck before how faithfully the accent seems to abide by the border, Northumbrian/Cumbrian on one side Scottish Borders on the other, but this guy definitely mixes things up a bit!
@2207734 жыл бұрын
Mostly Scottish without 'r's before consonants and all the words like 'down', 'out', 'about' are Northumbrian.
@2207734 жыл бұрын
@@EASYTIGER10 In Gretna people are totally Scottish, in Carlisle they're totally English. Here in Berwick things are a wee bit different... it is a mixed accent indeed, more leaning towards Scotland in my opinion, but the narrator here leans more towards Northumbria, don't know why...

Every Berwick accent takes more of a Scottish twang when being recorded. Strange but funny
@2207734 жыл бұрын
@@rtcrawford69 This is the first time I bump into a Berwicker who sounds a wee bit more Northumbrian, to be honest... all the people I met from Berwick sound much more Scottish to me. I'm a Scot, by the way.
@rtcrawford694 жыл бұрын
@@220773 the accent changes from Berwick to Tweedmouth. Half a mile distance and you can tell the difference if you live here. The old Berwick twang is dying out now though. Iv lived in Edinburgh and Newcastle and within a week I take on a stronger accent of each place. Ha!
@2207734 жыл бұрын
@@rtcrawford69 Och mah..... gosh. That would never happen over here in Scotland... south side Glasgow is the same as north of the river... So you might say the man who's talking here could be from Tweedmouth?
