one of the ads had a hula girl pig dancing on a parade float. I was in love with her. I still have the little cardboard record of this song. it is my favorite song . I want my family to play it at my funeral. hooray!

There were several of these Valleydale commercials, including a color version, but this is the one I remember from my childhood.

I remember this one. There were several versions, including a color one, but this is the one I remember best. Gotta love pigs that will gladly do commercials for pork products. No loyalty to their own kind. LOL.

I remember this one vividly. There were several versions, including a color one, but this is the version I remember. I loved the pig with the trombone snagging the other two, but always wondered why they came out of the bell again without a WTF!?! look on their faces.

I'm 61 and I don't remember Smilin' Ed McConnell. Also, the froggy I knew had a deeper more animated voice than the one in this video. Even the puppet is different than this one. Froggy made a revolutionary out of me, to which I'll aways be grateful to him. PLUNK YOUR MAGIC TWANGER, FROGGY!

"Smilin' Ed's Gang" with Ed McConnell debuted on radio in 1943 and came to TV in 1950. At one time or another, all three networks -- NBC, CBS and ABC -- carried the show until Ed died in 1955. Retitled "Andy's Gang" and recast with gravel-voiced Andy Devine in the lead, the series retained Froggy, Midnight and Squeaky until being cancelled in December 1960. Froggy the Gremlin was great but I found Midnight the Cat disturbing as it appeared to be a dead REAL cat mechanically manipulated. Yech!

You'd be surprised how many boomer KZbinrs are out there, I too saw this show as a preteen and thought it was magnificent. You could get a Froggy in the local store in three sizes. I still have mine tucked away. If I want to retire, I'll put it on ebay....(LOL)

I must be older than anyone 'cause I remember when Smilin' Ed McConnell hosted the show! Sometimes I still greet my friends with "hiya kids hiya hiya hiya" and when I see or hear something I like, I don't say "sweeeet" I go "NIIIIIIIICE"!

mckinnons3: I'm another who saw the program when it first aired in the early 1950's. I loved it more than any of the other kids' programs back then. Seeing those Midnight the cat and Squeeky the mouse and froggie episodes now in surreally nostalgic.

I am one of a very few youtube users old enough to remember this from the early 50's. My favorite part of the program was when some visiting "expert" would be giving a lecture and Froggy would put ridiculous words in his mouth. The bit always followed the same formula. Don't know why it was funny but it was

Andy Devine is so cool. There is a Jack Benny movie called 'Buck Benny Rides Again' w/Andy & exemplifies his unique acting ability, outside of routine westerns where he appeared as "Jingles". Midnight looks tranquilized and squeaky, well, who knows. Imagine watching this show on LSD?

"ANDY'S GANG" was filmed in color for a time (as was his predecessor, "SMILIN' ED McCONNELL AND HIS BUSTER BROWN GANG"), but only the black & white prints were generally distributed.
