So no conga or bangos on the default sounds? I always thought there was. Btw that side stick and cowbell are so familiar on various records.
@scififunk12 күн бұрын
That's right, they were light on the percussion sounds, but that side stick, cowbell and clap are iconic.
@dpalaoro11 күн бұрын
@@scififunk iconic indeed! Ingot a question if you were limited to just that machine and the stock sounds, could you imitate conga/type percussive sound, lets say....with the toms perhaps?
@scififunk11 күн бұрын
@@dpalaoro to be honest I know it sounds like sacrilege, but I would supplement it with vst equivalent sounds. These days you can get all the iconic sounds all together. Eg. One of the electronic drum packs for ezdrummer 3. A Roland TR727 might be a good choice if it has to be hardware. Good luck with whichever direction you go!

@@scififunk ah word, I just meant back then, back in the day, what dudes would have done. But word up thanks for the response and suggestions. The SP12 loads samples too, right?
@scififunk11 күн бұрын
@dpalaoro back on the day the sp12 samples would have been used for something more adventurous like a human voice or scratch sample. The tr727 was not seen as top of the range like the sp12 so probably the pros would use something like a linn drum. All of these sounds are available now. Even better available via virtual drum machines. Also check out the emulator 2. An emu fan with money would definitely use that machine back then. Myself, I used an ensoniq mirage. I'm proud to say I was one of the first in the country to use the rack mount version. I pestered the supplier until he let me have one. 😀

Yeah good advice. Its an odd buisness making music. You do go in fits and starts and bursts and then ... nothing for a while. Gotta use some of this stuff for a track I need to get to somone soon. I'm in the middle bit atm ... going is slow.

Is the casio cz-1 worth it i have a powerful fm synth but i like the sound of the casio as well i just want to make analog sounds.
@scififunk6 ай бұрын
Yes! Why? Because it’s the only one in the series with velocity sensitivity. Put that on the filters and it’s a game changer, if you like to play rather than program. Vs DX7 et Al it’s a different sound.
@scififunk6 ай бұрын
Also please note the casios are digital . However due to the layout you’ll be at home programming it as it feels like working with an analogue dcos nit vcos etc.
@chinossynthesizer7056 ай бұрын
@@scififunk Yeah, I like that it's more simple to program it saves time. but with fm synthesis, it takes longer to program for me.

Nice pair of speakers, they look good!😍
@scififunk7 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. They seem to give a nice clear sound. Not really pushed them yet. I had them on reasonably loud the other day with closed doors, couldn’t hear anything outside! This is where foam seats and speaker stands with pin prick leg bottoms really help to isolate the sound.
@christofthedead7 ай бұрын
When the instructions say "place speakers 1.5m from wall", why do you measure the distance you are from the speaker, then decide you should hang it on a wall? Doesn't placing monitor speakers near walls overly attenuate the bass? Which you're having to max boost the treble to compensate for, while still further attenuating bass by +2? I mean, I guess that's fine? If some people want a secondary keyboard to use as a poop tray, ain't gonna muddy up my mix.
@scififunk7 ай бұрын
I did play with the settings, as the default settings were too full of bass. I then settled on something which approximately matched my headphones, so I’m happy.

Thanks for the vids. Is the K1R really 12 bit? The keyboard is 8 bit.
@scififunk8 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed them. It’s the same architecture as the k1. I thought they were all 12-bit but looking at vintage synth etc the k1 was 8 bit. The thing is around this time the sound got fudged between 8 to 12 bit. For example an engineer told me the sp-12 drum machine was 8 bit internally but it output at 12 bit. Early 8 bit (mid 80s) was a lot more dirty than the late 80s 8/12 bit. The k1r sounds cleaner than the ensoniq mirage sampler for example.
@anick21448 ай бұрын
@@scififunk Interesting, thanks! DX7 mk1 has a 12 bit DAC but I wouldn't be surprised if the k1 sounds a bit cleaner, sine for sine. I don't know how it runs internally.
