I get to pull out my stent tomorrow. I should be doing it today, but It's a holiday, and if the pain goes sideways like the operation did I need to make sure someone is at his office. I keep expecting the string to break while pulling out the stent.

This was excellent! Way more help than all the WebMD/medical articles out there. Thanks for being brave enough to post. I have a stent to remove in a couple of days, and I've had several before (chronic recurring kidney stones), but always went back into their office. I knew it was fairly straightforward when the nurse did it, and my string is EXTREMELY long, so that's good, but your actual experience was reassuring. Again, thank you.

Thanks sooooo much for sharing.Your video gave me the courage to pull my stent out. I didn’t take any pain meds before doing it .I was just at the point of just getting it over with. I felt pressure and tingling sensation at the end . It wasn’t that bad at all. I did take meds right after just in case I start to feel pain or uncomfortable.

First off I'm a man and I had my stone lazered today and got my stent , was like u and was just told while still groggy from anesthesia " in a couple days just grab the string and pull it out" I was like what??? I'm paying u thousands of dollars and I'm pulling this thing out myself, I am very intimidated, by this task. But I will do it because it fall on Saturday, and I want it gone. I do have some hemostats that I will use instead of tweezers so maybe that will help me get a hold on this string. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for this. I have to pull mine in 2 days and I'm very scared and was looking for tips online like you and not really finding anything. The fact you didn't scream or cry gives me hope. I also wondered if there's a best position: sit, squat, stand, lay down, or angle to pull it or if you just pull and it comes no problem. I'm scared of damaging my insides!

@@suzette8711 Well I'm going to be honest, I had some complications and had awful spasms for several hours afterwards. I almost went to the ER but my Dr called in some anti spasmodic meds and I got them and they helped but then I was just generally very sore for a few days took Rx pain meds and just stayed in bed. The nurse told me it was uncommon but not abnormal what happened to me. I'm not saying it to scare you but more I wish I knew it could be that painful and spasms were possible. For me it was worse than the stone pain itself. The fact that I didn't know made me panic more when I felt so bad. MOST people do not have that happen so I hope you don't! But if you do, don't panic and see if they can call in meds asap. I did it lying on my back I don't know if that made it worse but I was so nervous I thought if I was standing or squatting I might fall over. It's longer than you think it is. Keep pulling even if you feel a little resistance because if you stop it'll keep hurting longer and you'll still have to do it anyway. I wish I could have made a nurse visit and had them do it but no one gave it as an option. I would have paid for it honestly. So if that's an option I'd consider it. I am good with medical things and don't flinch with blood draws and barely reacted to iud insertion/removal. I've had 3 c sections, one of which reopened, and my stint removal was worse than any of those things. Again I'm sorry if that scares you but if I knew someone else had it that bad at least I wouldn't have been as scared when I did. At least once it calmed down, peeing was so so much better than when the stint was in. And obviously now it's been a year and all is well. My biggest suggestion would be IF you have ANYONE who can assist you and pull it out, whether it's a nurse of family member, then see if they will because then all you'd have to do is try to relax your muscles and take deep breaths vs do the pulling yourself in which case you can't put your mind anywhere except on the task. Which is weird, and yucky, and at a minimum very very uncomfortable. I sincerely do hope it is less eventful for you, and it probably will be! Best of luck, update tomorrow once it's over 💙

@zenwithkristen5695 Жыл бұрын
@@suzette8711 No complications while pulling outside of it being painful. I'm sorry you haven't been able to do it, I really hope that's not because of what my experience was. I just wish I had known it was a possibility is all and thought if I put it out there and it happened to someone else they could be like" Ok this feels really bad but that other girl said it could happen " and hopefully not panic and call the nurse line every 15min (until I got meds and it calmed down) like I did. Do it fast and get it over with when your Dr office or an urgent care is open and then call for meds if you need to. I hope you come back and say it wasn't so bad! I know if this ever happens to me again I'll want some less dramatic stories than mine to see 🙂

Thank you for being so open and honest about your experience. I had my 6mm kidney stone that was stuck in my tube broken up with a laser internally with a cystoscope today. Afterwards I was told a stent was put in. Oh my God this thing is so painful and once the pain meds wore off from general anesthesia I feel everything. The end of my stent has string hanging outside my urethra and taped to my leg. Today is Friday and I was told Sunday evening I can self remove my stent. Being fully transparent I am terrified of having to take it out myself. I know what it feels like in and all the Tylenol and ibuprofen in the world isn’t helping. Plus when I got home from the hospital and got out of my fiancé‘s car and stood up I had an episode of incontinence. I literally peed all over myself soaked through my underwear and my pants. Took everything off and was just draining on the floor standing over two towels. Call doc and was told that was normal because my bladder was spasming. Had to take anti-spasmodic meds for my bladder along with Azo For burning relief but it still hurts. I’m uncomfortable and I get sharp stabbing pains periodically and it feels like someone’s taking a knife to my urethra on and off. I’m having so much issues after one day and I’m dreading the next day and a half. I could not imagine having to do this for a week or longer. My fear and my biggest fear because I was asleep when they put the stent in, is I’m awake and I have to take it out myself at home. Beyond terrified. Tired and sore and just want to be done.

Thanks for sharing. I removed my stent today, and so far so good. Something I read that helped for me was: "Sit on the edge of the tub and take a slow breath in. Of course having the pain meds in my system was important too.

@@suzette8711 it went really well. I’d suggest taking a pain pill about 45 mins before you are going to remove it, just as a precaution. Then wait until you have to pee, and get in a warm shower. As you start to pee, start pulling the string at a steady pace and don’t stop until the stent is out. Peeing while doing it ensures everything is open. It felt weird, but I had no pain whatsoever. I have had many surgeries but never felt sicker than when a stent is in....and the terrible spasms and pain after removal. @@sarahkaylee1 Im male and had a non string stent in for 4 months straight, it was hell. I just went in yesterday for a second procedure of laser lithotripsy to break up some large stones, and my urologist inserted a new stent, the one with the string. There’s a ton of string outside mine though and it’s anchored with tape. I have to remove it on Monday and I’m absolutely terrified. I’m probably going to have to ask my wife to do it, because I don’t know that I can. I’ll probably hesitate and end up causing myself more unpleasantness than she would just pulling it straight out quickly. I am planning on drugging up on pain meds, Azo, anxiety meds, anti-spasm meds and flomax before we do it though. Still terrified, and since I have a panic disorder, this isn’t very fun.
