I'm leaving an IMDb and Letterboxd review with slightly longer thoughts about this very good work, but here I just want to say that I am envious that you have watched Sunless at least 20 times. A tribute, revival, and exercise in Markerism. I don't think any existing work comes close as a comprehensive (re-)establishment of Marker's films, photos, and practices as vitally important to understanding, and loving, the modern world around us.

(At 43:26) _"When "the magical function of the eye", meets that magical extension of the eye. A reciprocal gaze, breaches the partition between witness and participant. This method - your method, of sewing moments into an eternity, far beyond "the length of a film frame". Places an unmistakable divinity, into an unassuming crowd. Evoking the candour of those pre-modern faces, found in museums and monasteries. It might suffice to say, the gaze that really looks, is that which keeps looking."_ "En plein dans le mille!" as we say in French. _"This locution is taken from the Jeu de la grenouille, where the puck that falls into the mouth of the frog on the table brings the thousand, which is the highest number. From Latin mille"_ fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeu_de_la_grenouille Obviously in your version a cat has eaten the frog.

I have to say, even as a westerner, this music has a very strange but undeniable allure to it. There's truly nothing else like it in the world (that I'm aware of). I have no shame in admitting that I actually like this group. Not even ironically. It's just different and I genuinely enjoy it.
@MGGGamesXL10 ай бұрын
Why would you have to have shame to like music from another country. If you like the star spangled banner does that mean you agree with everything the American government does and are the biggest supporter of America?
@dave43429 ай бұрын
It is traditional Korean music. I always found it beautiful as a Korean. Thankfully foreigners are finding out about it
@Verchiel_9 ай бұрын
Tbf some of the songs are just covers of western songs. As i'm writing this a cover of cheri cheri lady is playing. But it's also no surprise, it's just 1960/70/80s pop which is full of great music. And it kinda falls down to "separate artist from the artwork". Only because a song was written as propaganda or have some deeper negative message, unless you wish to take the lyrics to heart, it shouldn't have any effect on you. Just jam out and enjoy it :>
