Sold. I will be on the lookout at my nearest nursery this Spring for a Mulberry tree. Wow! Those are large berries. Last year I purchased a Washington Hawthorn, and I plan to plant a Serviceberry this year. My hopes are to attract the Cedar Waxwings to my yard - such beautiful birds.

This video is interlaced with political adds every couple of minutes. It was a very annoying experience. It's subversive use of the FNPS good name to provide political messaging. I will put up with 1 ad but a lot of right wing junk is insulting.

It’s good for you to get out of your Safe space shell and grow up sometimes. If opposition thought makes you have a temper tantrum then it’s good that you were given a reality check.

Now that you've had it a year, has the wooden bottom rotted out, from rain water? Would you recommend a roof?
@NatureWiseTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes the bottom rots out but takes several years. Just leave some cracks between the sides when screwing on the 4 sides to the platforms so the water can seep out. A cover would be a good idea too.

Do you know which variety of passion vine you are growing? I am having a hard time finding a variety that the zebra longwing likes. Apparently there are 500 varieties and the long wing only likes a few of them.
@brauliosoto45904 жыл бұрын
The host plant of the Zebra Longwings are Passiflora Lutea and Passiflora Suberosa. I have both and I've seen how they come to my garden to put their eggs! I didn't know they also put their eggs on that variety of passion vine shown in the video ! I'm not able to recognize the name of that variety :/

these look like the true native to Florida incarnata. I'm assuming she's in Florida because of the Sabal palms. The passiflora incarnata have three lobes for each leaf...the hybrids have five. theres so many others but I know people who think they have the true native but they have 5 lobes. I unfortunately have those and then found the true natives so I have both.

Thank you for creating this. I wish more people took this seriously. Maybe then bee, butterfly, and other pollinator populations wouldn't be dropping so much 😔 I barely see any butterflies like I used to. They used to COVER the lantana bushes when I was a little kid
@lepidlover05574 жыл бұрын
I have created a playlist full of videos dedicated to how you can help butterflies and other pollinators I am very picky about what goes in the playlist, so only well executed videos are added Please have a look if any viewers are interested!! 😁♥️ Link to playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLjdyd3p09OQfp3QG_xNcgWa3ZWpr9sQ-r

Not all native flowers provide nectar to their pollinators. Many species of native bees (including our bumblebees) alternate between pollen rich flowers that lack nectar and nectar rich flowers offering little edible pollen. A relative of your mimosa is cats claw sensitive briar (Mimosa/Schankia nuttalii) attracting dozens of bee species without a nectar reward. Hypoxis, Hepatica , Senna and Tradescantia also lack nectar offering pollen to native bees.

My house is in Winter Park, but in Seminole county. A woman working for code enforcement wrote me a letter telling me to cut my uncultured weeds in my yard, or I would be fined $250. a day. I had to cut down my Spanish Needle (Bidens) with all those flowers on them, mow my native grass and small plants down, and edge the sidewalk and along the street curb. This was in Sept/ going into Oct. Some people just understand native landscaping.

I would have fought the citation...

Design everything in a way that the plants are placed in an aesthetic manner so that it would be obvious that your plants are there intentionally and buy LOTS if flowering plants. Then, get a sign or two that says either "Butterfly Garden" or "Pollinator Garden" so that people would understand your objective Edit: Oh, and also have large pots with pollinator - attracting flowers and place them in a place where they WILL be seen. If they know that you're intentionally growing plants like that and you keep it groomed JUST enough, they may allow it.

@@elaine31347 I read the language and decided that I could not win in local court. Besides the native plants grew back quickly.

Wish they grew in Pa. I have a hybrid of Live oak and Overcup oak, it will not look exactly like a Live oak, but, it will look a bit like it, and get pretty huge. I have a Quartz mountain Live oak growing here in Pa, But, it grows much slower and gets a bit smaller than the true Southern Live oak.
