I've always had problems approaching this piece, although I'm a big Schoenberg fan. This recording has really helped me like a piece I've always found difficult.

Few years ago, I cannot listen to this, but nowadays this kind of music is most relatable to me. One must have experienced or felt... something, in life to appreciate this with ease. Because of the difficulty in coming up with the "narrative" of the music, it's like as the present time moves, you are "prohibited" to reflect on the past and look on the far future. Yeah lots of things happened with some bits repeating and some moments seem exciting, but you *recognize* almost nothing, so you think almost nothing really happened. Hahn performed this exquisitely.

Has Toscanini plateaued on his speed with the recording of Mozarts symphony? I think because the briskness is certainly present, that does not mean he is any less affectionate about the passion of this work than others he has conducted. I can appreciate this recording for its value and its unadulterated editorial tamperings.

One of the great recordings of the Fauré I Olin Sonata No 1. Such a lavish tone from Dimay and great chemistry with Collard. I loved this interpretation from the time it came out in 1984. Truly ravishing and the purest tone.

Soltis is the greatest version of the Messiah. I remember buying this in Borders Book Store back in the day when I was 18 years old. Never heard better yet, with absolutely no disrespect to any other version, because there is no bad version really.

As a Stravinsky fan, it's nice to pay attention to his less "neo classical" stuff. Threni is amazing.

I’ve listened to a bunch of interpretations of this and this one kills it. So many of the modern versions wallow in self-indulgence trying to make a personal statement 🤦

Enchanting performance, but Stravinsky would have hated it. Karajan does a bad job at emphasizing the iambic rhythms so essential to Apollo.

He was considered modern for his time. Ida Haendel described him as the aristocrat of violinists. Apparently slides were considered fashionable by violinists of his generation but he never employed them in his playing.
