DX7 has a max velocity of 100, and Dexed has the same enging, so don't put to much velocity in to Dexed...... That is the main difference

Most of the sounds were close enough to equal that a little EQ or FX could round out if needed. Some sounds were fatter or more sonically colored with the Arturia. A few were better with Dexed. I have Dexed installed and I've played around with it. One of the other comments mentions the Plogue Chipsynth OPS7 which does have richness, clarity and sparkle at a much friendlier $49.95. If I ever just had to have DX sounds I'd likely go for that one. For what it's worth back in the 80's when all the gear snobs had DX7's I opted for the Korg DW-8000 to go with my Juno 106. The DW-8000 was easy to mod a patch to match any song of the era. Six Op FM needed an MIT degree. Four Op FM was easy.

Using the current version, 0.9.8 of Dexed I can't locate the classic 'E Piano 1'. Any thoughts?

Hola,difinitivamente, a mi humilde forma de ver,el dexed es prácticamente, el vst que mas se parece a el teclado fisico yamaha DX7 . Ademas de estar diseñado para interactuar entre vst y teclado DX7 fisico... Con lo que respecta a arturia, es muy similar,solo que se le agregan mas efectos y otros tipos de ondas... Lo que le agrega cosas nuevas... En cuanto a emulacion ,creo que si la idea es repeoducir un sonido de un yamaha DX7 de los 80s con un vst, lo mas cercano a esto, para mi es el Dexed...saludos

I never thought I'd say my REAL DX7 is so much more realistic than something, but you just can't beat real. I suppose it might help greatly if you mic an amp of the virtual playing through it. direct VST's sound like dog shit.

Hey Congratulations! i followed all your steps and now i have a great preset, i would like to ask you if you know how could i add it a little more "punch" to the note execution. im not talking about this "click" you generate with the config of the "filter" section of the Prophet. if you hear the studio version, you can really hear the note execution with a really nice attack. im not close to that, i hear the tone very similar, but the notes are melting with each others. i hope my question is clear. To be honest, i dont think i would get this sound without your help with this video. Thanks!

The other difference between the two plugins is CPU impact. You can run 8 instances of DEXED for less impact than the Arturia DX7. I'll have to compare to OPS7 as well. Another small difference is that DEXED is available for Mac Windows, Linux and Raspberry PI. The filter on the Arturia is mono btw too.

Great job! Exactly the patch I was looking for :) Question though: were you using a physical keyboard with this? Asking because: I'm using Arturia KeyLab mkii 61 to drive ALab presets. Found that with the bass preset you used (from DX7): I have to hit physical keys pretty hard to get that zing on top. If not - zing is not there => does not sound like the original. Is this 1)my mkii overall velocity sensitivity? or 2)this specific preset's parameter? If #2: do you by chance know how to tweak it?

Tried doing the same settings on my Sequential Take 5 and it didnt sound close haha gonna have to modify it i suppose.

The Arturia DX7 sounds so quiet and smooth like a filter was applied, not thus with Dexed, I think some different arrangement is causing this.

What interfaces do you recommend that are compatible with multiple outputs for Ableton? If you have an interface with 2 headphone outputs, is there a way to send the cue/metronome to both?

i have an Audient evo 8, i have 2 tracks and i want to separate them. I have the A track in out 1/2, and the B track in 3/4, but i still hear them both in both outpus, why is not separating them?

Best DX7 VST is without question OPS7 by Plogue. I compared several VSTs: FM8/Arturia DX7V/Dexed and OPS7 is the winner. Its sound generation and the way it reads original DX7 patches is the most accurate. With OPS7 you can also layer sounds, just like a DX7 mk2.

So I love this track way back in the year, well I was just entering high school and it was a while back. Anyway, back to the subject, this track. I am working on the singing the vocal stem track part as I think I want to throw some really skrillex style dustep. This one and "The Promise", by When In Rome or any Depeche Mode track. Really I believe with a modern touch, re-track the vocals or add another verse/hook/break something that really brings back the feel and words, melody but then drops it hard and flared out with today's atmosphere and sound manipulation which was seen as synthetic noise or lacking of substance, I believe this could be a really dope as F**k remixed track

Korg Opsix User here. As I just read in the Arturia manual, it has non-sine waveforms as well. This makes a difference, as it expands the possibilities significantly. Dexed, volca fm , megafm, reface dx, and digitone have sine only. Tx81z, Opsix and arturia dx7 have different numbers of waveforms.

I downloaded the arturis demo. Unless you put the envelope type in ADSR mode not DX7 mode, there are no attack settings on the bass envelopes. So what are you talking about ? The RomA1 15-1 Bass1 patch sounds nothing like yours out of the box EDIT: i worked it out. Are you a mouse drag and drop keyboard player? The metalic slap bass timbre only cuts through if turn off velocity sensitivity to 0. Or midi keyboard set velocity curve to fixed volume with a bit of lift in the mod. Otherwise when playing it sounds nothing like it unless you smash the keys down really hard.
