Hey man, just got a Z400 a month ago. It came with an exhaust and sliders, and I'm wondering about getting stunt/crash bars so I can feel secure if the thing tips over in the twisties. That being said, decently produced video man. It's calming and very clear. No fluff. I like it!

When doing the mirrors, what did you do to eliminate the oem "nubs" where the oem mirrors mount to the handle bars? Just picked up my Z400 last week and mirrors are definitely on the mod list. Thank you

@@chrissterk-sterkyfilms7215 hey, thanks, I have since figured it out. If you don’t mind, I’ve seen that many of these aftermarket exhausts are not street legal. Do people use them illegally and just basically never get caught? It’s been unclear so I figure that’s what’s going on.
@chrissterk-sterkyfilms7215
@chrissterk-sterkyfilms7215 2 жыл бұрын
@@trailguy People often buy the full system exhausts which include the modified headers as well as the muffler - this removes the catalytic converter which in most places is illegal. the other thing that makes them illegal is exceeding the max loudness. With the slip on here it doesn't effect the cat and its volume when compared to a lot of others brands/models is not as bad - so it sits in a gray area, but dealerships still sell them both, so up to you! Hope that helps

I have a Kawasaki Z 400. I bought it used and it had this Yoshimura muffler on it. If you hate your neighbors, if you want to get the attention of the police, if you want people to look at you as you ride by and think, what an asshole, buy this noise maker. This video does not demonstrate just how loud this muffler is. if you look through the end of the muffler, it’s like looking down A cardboard tube that paper towels come on. It’s a straight shot, you could roll a golf ball through this muffler from one into the other. It says right on the muffler, from the factory, this is for track use only. so if you want to be “that guy “, go ahead by this muffler. If you live in an apartment complex, if you park your motorcycle in a garage of a large building with indoor parking, you will be cursed and hated.. when I first bought this bike with this muffler on it a few weeks ago, my wife, and my son told me, they heard me coming for about two minutes. The sound was echoing through the valley I live next to.. even my dog was barking at me when I pulled into the driveway. luckily, I found a used muffler, stock used muffler on eBay for $40 free shipping. It’s on my z400 right now, and it sounds deeper, it sounds like a larger displacement machine with a stock muffler.. I will say this. With the stock muffler, I am getting a buzz/tingle in the foot pegs, in the seat, and in the handlebars that was not there when I had the Yoshimura muffler on. my machine only has 1700 miles on it, the guy I bought it from was 40 years old, and he wanted a small bike to learn to ride on. He was 6‘5“ tall, and he weighed 240 pounds. The week after he bought the bike, he realized he needed a bigger bike. His loss, my gain.. I just sold my GL 1800 Goldwing, and my 2007 Moto guzzi norge Because I just wasn’t riding them as much as I used to, and I picked up this Kawasaki Z 400 just to have a little get around toy to ring it neck on weekends with my buddies out in the backroads.. I never expected to fall in love with this bike. The suspension is too soft, but the machine will cruise at 80 miles an hour on the interstate without even working up a sweat. The clutch I can actually work the clutch with my little finger, I am not kidding. I love the spot on fuel injection on this bike. I did 168 miles yesterday, May 2, 2021, and I got 69.1 miles per gallon on all backroads constantly shifting according to the information display which I believe because I did not even use half a tank of gas according to the gauge. I want to go to one tooth larger countershaft sprocket because this machine will start out in 2nd gear, no problem, and it will continue to accelerate in sixth gear uphill, so it will pull taller gearing.. I have the new sprocket, but I could not get the nut off of the output shaft. My best impact gun wouldn’t budge it.. my 27 mm impact socket on the end of a half inch breaker bar with an additional old fork tube on the end of that would not break that nut loose so that I could put on the one tooth larger sprocket. A larger sprocket will increase the life of the chain, because the smaller the counter shaft sprocket, the less teeth you have sharing the load, that accelerates chain ware.. anyway I’m getting off topic. If you live somewhere where the echo of this mufflers noise will be bouncing between buildings, you will be noticed, for all the wrong reasons. This is a small displacement bike which means, you will be on the gas and spinning it without really going that fast in the lower gears. The police will hear you coming and it sounds like you’re going much faster than you actually are.. just sayin.. update six weeks later. I finally got the counter shaft nut off by putting a 2 x 4 between the spokes of the rear wheel to keep it from spinning when I put a breaker bar with a pipe on the end to spin off the counter shaft nut. about 50 miles after putting the 15 tooth countershaft sprocket on, my gear display on the dashboard stopped working and my check engine light came on. I was about 80 miles from home when that happened, I got out the tools and checked for adequate oil and water levels.The bike was running OK so I took it easy and rode at home. After some reading, I learned that I could get the code that the computer on the bike would display, is the part in question. The code was 21, gear position indicator.. I bought a used gear position indicator from a salvage yard and installed it. No change. The check engine light was still on, and the display would not tell me what gear I was in.. I disconnected the battery in hopes that would reset or erase the code. That usually works with a car. It did not work with my Z 400. I went on KZbin and found that if you change the countershaft sprocket, the computer on the machine that is tied in to the ABS gets an error code when it sees the transmission speeds are different from what they usually are in relation to the rear wheel speed, and it triggered a code 21.. so I put the 14 tooth countershaft sprocket back on and follow the step-by-step procedure to erase the code and get my gear position indicator to start telling me what gear I was in. The procedure is start the bike and let it idle for at least 30 seconds. Then drive the bike for at least 10 minutes at least 25 miles an hour. Do that three times and the code will go away. Thankfully it did. I now have my gear indicator working again and the check engine light went out. I mentioned before that there is buzz in the foot pegs when I went back to a stock muffler. I was able to fix that by removing the stainless steel cap on the end of the muffler, and I stuck a couple 1 once Wheel balancing weights stuck to the muffler inside that end cap made of stainless on the stock muffler. That is an old trick I learned years ago when you have mirrors on your motorcycle that vibrate. You need to change the frequency that the mirror responds to by adding a small amount of weight. I applied that lesson I learned about mirrors to the muffler and it worked. The muffler does not respond/buzz the way it did at the same frequency, so the buzz in the foot pegs is totally gone now. My last tank of gas, mostly back roads not very many stop signs or red lights. I got 82 miles per gallon, and I don’t think I ever went over 7000 RPMs during that whole tank of gas.
