I just bought a blending board when I was at Rhinebeck sheep and wool a few weeks ago and I have been experimenting. I bought some slightly matted merino and after blending it spun up beautifully and very thin. I was having trouble pulling it off the board. I was pulling up to the handle but holding the board with the handle away from me. Your method looks better and less difficult to pull. I will try it. I was also using 2 poles one on top of the yarn and one underneath. Is there a difference?

Amy Sceri fiber comes off of some brands better than the others. Putting too much fiber on the board also makes it difficult to remove. I only use one dowel. Get the book I wrote. It is only available at Clemescom.

can you dizz off this board ?
@GwenPowellSpinner10006 жыл бұрын
Yes. Start from a bottom corner and work across the bottom then up and across in a zigzag manner.

that's what I figured thanks for replying :)

Is there any chance that you'll ever make a part 2? This technique is really interesting and I'd love to see the finished yarn.

Thank you for the information videos. Do you have pictures of the spun wool? I'm very interested in seeing what the diagonal blend with small rolags looks like. Even better, did you video tape the spinning?

I have been trying to find the Spinning a Woolen Garneted Yarn. I have learned much from your Videos. I just needed to use a little more fiber since I was using roving not fleece. Keep the educative videos coming. Your videos have been the best for me as a new student. Thank you!!!!

I am sorry, I never got it up. There are other videos on spinning woolen. I am in the midst of writing a book on blending boards.
@bumblebaa23277 жыл бұрын
that's a pity because spinning woolen from these rolls is probably different than spinning woolen from true rollags, the fluffy ones that feel like chewing gum when drawing out. I would have LOVED to see the spinning of your garneted rolls, I've never seen anything like it. I wonder about the speed of the wheel, the holding of your hands, everything.

Gwen,Your videos are great; very informative & inspiring! I'd love to see part 2 that shows the spinning, have you posted that yet?

Can't wait to see the finished result, this video was absolutely great. I think people are overly sensitive to your precious birds.

Sorry, those are my parrots in the background. I do not have a way to filter them out. The Blending Board does not make any sound other than when you brush the fiber into the teeth.

i'm sure it's a great video, but i had to quit watching it due to the squeaking (screeching?) i couldn't tell if it was the swivel of the blending board squeaking, or a bird. in any case, sorry. i couldn't handle it.

Sorry everyone. I just have not had time to finish editing the video. Lucky for me so much work has come in that I have to finish it first.

I watched a few of your videos and then decided on the Clemes & Clemes blending board so that you very much for helping make this decision.

Though there is some cross over in use, the drum carder is suppose to straighten the fiber. After the batt comes off the drum carder you can make rolags but that is not the original intent. The blending board is intensionally made to mix fibers up on and produce rolags for woolen spinning. There are many things you can do on a blending board that you cannot do on a drum carder. You can card much more volume in a short amount of time on a drum carder than on a blending board.

Why can't this be used as a replacement for a drum carder? I'm a bit new to this and genuinely curious. It seems like they both do about the same thing.
@SmokeyLove2211 жыл бұрын
gosh, I want to see you spin the rolags now!

Enjoyed this video. I am trying to decide between hackle and comb set or a drum carder. This blending board is very interesting and another option. Thanks

I just got my Spin Off and went crazy when I saw this! I wonder how much it would be to send a carding board to Norway? I love blending color and fiber, do own several pairs of carders and a carding machine, all in use. I love the ability to be mobile and use this simple but beautiful item!
@GwenPowellSpinner12 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are like punis. But you can also make larger rolags. Stay tuned for more videos in January.
@mhall195312 жыл бұрын
Very interesting...isn't this much like making punis except these are wool? Very creative technique.
@piranha4D12 жыл бұрын
interesting tool; thank you for the introduction -- this is sort of like a blending hackle, but you have even more control (and get a rolag instead of roving). what would make it even more interesting for me as a beginning spinner is to see you spin some of those patterned rolags, to get more of a feel for what sort of yarns can result from them.
@GwenPowellSpinner12 жыл бұрын
I had Clemes design this for me because it prepares fiber that the drumcarder will not. I also spin a lot of woolens and the preparation is better than the drumcarder for that. I do also have a drumcarder. But the blending board stashes into such a small space and travels with me where ever I go. Does DH even have to know? ;)
@jencie7412 жыл бұрын
Ohhh...You are sorely tempting me!!! My DH is griping about the electric drumcarder that's on the kitchen table- and asking my why we need MORE fiber prep tools though, so i likely won't be getting a blending board anytime soo ;)
