This was a HUGE help here in 2024 too. I hope you will periodically update and demonstrate the top 3-5 OSes for PXE booting every few years. I have been away from pxe booting for years and this was an awesome refresher for me. Thank you !!!

This has been so incredibly helpful. I do get a pop up stating "Detect and mount installation media" requesting other drivers. Not sure If I'm the only one who experienced this?

I'm trying to get this working to boot Ubuntu MATE 22.04 and Clonezilla Alternative 20220620 using TFTP instead of HTTP but I keep getting an error saying NFS over TCP not available: network unreachable. Any ideas? Also, it won't work at all with lighttpd.

It's a great tutorial, I just have one question, why do you use two hostnames? What function does Raspy have? sorry, there were two.
@AnnaVannieuwenhuyse
@AnnaVannieuwenhuyse Жыл бұрын
the two "host" entries that they added afterwards are merely there to pre-assign those IP's to those hosts. Instead of setting the static IP on the client, the DHCP server is always giving that client the same IP and not giving it to any other client. Those two sections configure the DHCP server to reserve that IP for that client.

Hi, In the DHCP section, if I use multiple vlans provided by pfsense, how will I have to configure it?

Keep your DHCP on your PfSense server, and have the DHCP on your PfSense server point to the IP of the tftp server.

Nice Tutorial series :-) i was yelling at my screen when you misspelled nfsroot however i was making it much worst i type ntfsroot ( i don't even use Windows for over a decade now. Using Linux only since ±2010 I'm looking for PXE boot/nfs run complete Linux for my Dell WYSE dx0d thin clients ( a company gave to me a bunch of them ) that's why i bounced in to your tutorials and they were nice to watch. Like some others already mentioned "Loud and Clear" No Messing around ;-) perfect for new ones. However i would prefer to use dnsmasq in proxy mode, so you can combine it wit existing DHCP servers / routers ;-)

funny I am getting PXE videos now, after I already did installed Debian on laptop with all USB broken and no optical drive I used 2 Raspberry Pi 4B, one as DHCP+DNS server, other as full mirror of Debian (yes, I mean (almost) full mirror) with http ftp and tftp to serve UEFI iPXE

Great post - Followed the exact steps on ubuntu 20.04.03 and it didn't work for me, the VM test gets an IP address, nothing else is displayed; just a flushing "_" When you have a chance, please post the commands in a text file, I am sure I have some text mistakes along the conf lines somewhere.

Dude your series is awesome. Despite this awesome information the view is low. Your video deserve better view count but unfortunately not much people aware of this pxe like booting. I dont know maybe you want to create part 3 for the managing user home folders securely. Because the nfs not secure. I am not aware best practices. Maybe part 3 will be good for us. Thank you for your effort. Everything very clear and easy. I will be subs and like. I hope new year bring all goods for you. Peace.
