Im a fan of the acction scenes and the asthetic of the planets in the new movies, but whenever I try to speak about it I only recieve regurgitated hate about how "Disney ruined it" and "Its woke now" and "It breaks the canon" without any actual argumetation. You make actually great points!

I totally agree with you in this video. I think the best thing that was produce under disney is Star Wars: The Bad Batch. I think most likely it was pure accident by giving into capable hands and anyone who could "make it better" don't look at it while it was made. It's a bout a defective squad of clone right after Order 66 and show a lot of intresting thing. It feels star wars and one of the advantage of the show is that the main characters are not jedi's that give a very different taste and look to everything.

One of the big influences on Star Wars Lucas does not like to mention so much are the Lensman books... which are so eerily close to Star Wars in some very specific ways it's no wonder Lucas avoids mentioning them.

Bro episode 8 was so shit that I walked out of the theater retroactively hating Star Wars and wanting absolutely nothing to do with it. It was horrific, and I didn't regain my appreciation for Star Wars until a friend of mine browbeat me into playing KOTOR II.

i'd slightly disagree about there being a lot of filler. A lot of what seems like filler at first turns out to be wildly obvious hints and foreshadowing when you go back and reread them afterwards. after all, everything being shown to you was written by yasuda (and later, tohya), specifically to help you understand beatrice. the real issue is just that ryukishi repeats himself so much. "She was talking so loudly I got a headache. in other words, my headache was caused by her excessively loud talking." great video though

Madoka felt pretty revolutionary when it came out. And I'm all for the suffering of magical girls works that came after. I never played the gatcha but the anime adaptation's first season was boring and forgetabble. The second/final season were better. The only thing I remember was the magical girls designs, some of them were pretty good. Bokurano mentioned! Honestly I never drew the parrallels between Kyuubei and Dung Beetle but you're right they are quite similar. Would llove to see a video on Bokurano (manga) or Narutaru (manga) or about Kitoh Mohiro's works overall. The Narutaru manga especially is easily one of the works that had the greatest and lasting impact on me.

There are many references to N Germany. The Yorha battle suit seen in route C uses a Stahlhelm The flight unit is based on the prototype bomber Horten Ho 229 A2's team attacking Pearl Harbor The years of events lining up with WW2 +10000 years Ending E might also be inspired by fans consistently asking Yoko Taro for a happy ending. He once in an interview stated that he doesn't give the protagonists of his game a happy ending because people who act in those mass killings don't deserve one regardless of circumstances. Would really like a review on the NieR remake and how the additional parts contributed to the story

If you liked some aspects of the visuals and meanings in madoka, you should check out another anime called Flip Flappers. It is an absolute masterclass of symbolism, and is an exploration of the Jungian psyche. You could probably unpack more in a single FlipFlappers episode than in an entire season of Eva, Madoka, FLCL, etc. Oh did I mention and it's another deconstruction of the magical girl genre :)

Just addin a comment here while im a bit drunk; please dont stop these normal book reviews. I'm worried that since your literary reviews concerning unorthodox materials (Visual Novels, Video Games) became your most popular, you might feel compelled to peruse whatever attains the best view count. I love both your book reviews and game/VN reviews and I hope you keep up both. Much love from the boonies of the midwest.

I think stories that discuses on the significance of time and childhood is something that's really important to a child to learn. Because it gives them a narrative the serves as a framework to help recontextualize their lives up to that point and also encourages them to take action on determining what they would want to do with their life. Same thing happen to me when I watched the movie anime "Shin Chan: The Adult Empire Strikes Back" which I highly recommend watching.

I knew of the series Umineko but never any details. I saw the meme picture awhile ago on twitter about the video list being all these classic books and a random anime title inbetween all of it. So i have watched this video before going through the VN. So i only really knew of the final choice was to be expexted. Today 9/3/24 after 85+ hours that i started back in mid-August i have gone through the 8 episodes. The journey was ardous but very hard hitting and encompassing. I will not lie. When i finally reached that final question, I could not choose so i let go off my mouse and let the screen stay there for a good while. This was because even after seeing everything this story had to give the answer it WANTED me to choose i felt like i wasnt worthy of being able to pick it. I cried looking at the two choices due the intropective it made me go through no matter how short it was since i wanted to pick the answer it presented but i did not it to be out of obligation but by my own genuine choice. I will never forget this story and those characters.

We got another one. It warms my heart to hear how you wanted to make it a genuine and powerful choice, that all things led to that moment and that you had to change to complete it. I really think these powerful stories change something within us and through the experience we become richer deeper souls.

When people talk about “they don’t want politics in their video games” what they really mean is they don’t want politics dealing with minorities, women, or LGBT. They will totally buy and love games with politics that don’t have anything to do with those. Bioshock, Fallout, Metal Gear, all politic heavy games but those first three subjects I mention take a backseat to the other.

If you liked Metal Gear Solid 2 and its ending, I can't recommend Patlabor The Movie 2 enough. Kojima had definitely seen it and pulled aspects of it for that game (and Mamoru Oshii's filmography as a whole) so it serves as an interesting companion piece to look at the Japanese political context which spawns Metal Gear's commentary. Without spoiling too much, it follows this police procedural drama (albeit the police have giant robots at their disposal) about a terrorist campaign attempting to restore Japan's right to belligerency. It looks at terrorism as a kind of memetic warfare given that militarily it's pretty ineffective and instead is an attempt to manipulate the opinions of those who feel threatened by it. In contrast, Japan's "peacetime" status quo relies on the exploitation of the developing world: specifically the "Japanese Self-Defense Force" was taking part in a UN peacekeeping operation to reconstruct the Cambodian government at the time of the film's release. MGS2 was going to make even more similar points to this movie early on in its development when the game was going to end with Arsenal Gear crashing through the Brooklyn Bridge and displacing the statue of liberty, which were toned down due to the dev team fearing terrorist attacks against Konami in the wake of 9/11. Not to say that any of this discounts the artistry in MGS2 but it provides some equally fascinating context for an already really layered game.

the AMCs show is sooo good. got me reading (listening to an audiobook) of this and its been very interesting! maybe not super deep and philosophical, but the literary style with all of the little yappenings (prose) and the gay understones in the context of it being written in the 80s is definitely worth a read.

I feel like you might really like BLAME! It's one of the few pieces of manga outside of Berserk that really elicit this "Souls-y" feel for me. The isolation. The dark tone. The quiet, taciturn stretches of pages upon pages of the main character just walking, endlessly searching. It also plays a lot with visual cues over overt story telling, and you're left to figure out the details for yourself. Honestly this is a really cool channel, I like this format. Keep it up!
