This very useful Tulia, thank you very much. What I really love is adding the sentence 'Can we all agree on those shared commitments?'. Then there comes a pause and I have eyecontact with the participants. Sometimes I raise my hand and ask the group to do likewise while agreeing. It creates a safe container for all of us.😊

Thank you Tulia for this lovely snippet on effective communication. You are a great presenter. I'd like to add one thing to what you said in the beginning that if you communicate a message that does not elicit the expected expectations from the audience, then you have more work to do. Whereas it is true that there is always room for improving our communication skills, there are situations when it takes two to tango. People in the audience have their share of contribution in the exchange of information. To have an inspiring conversation, it requires presence from the speaker and the listener. So, what I am trying to say is that improving your communication skills is a must- have priority for anyone in leadership roles but when the message is broken, instead of taking all the responsibility on your shoulders, be self-compassionate. This is human nature: to misunderstand one another and to start all over again, with more insights and wisdom about explicit conversations. What do you think about this aspect of self-compassion?

Hey there, thank you for taking the time to share your views and feedback on my talk. Yes, I do agree with your point. "Self-compassion", always. Also, I agree that it takes two to tango, but still, if you are the one trying to establish a conversation, trying to get our message across, you are the one to find ways to get the attention of your listeners. You then need to reassess your own message and ways of communicating it to that particular audience (person), with "self-compassion", not as a punishment or criticism. Sometimes we do it right, sometimes we don't. It is a "constant" learning process. 😉
