I love the gospel quartet sound. The harmonies are outstanding! My family has a long history in gospel. They were called The Happy Harmony Quartet from Chattanooga, Tennessee. I posted some of their albums on my channel.

When I retired at 55, I heard bill Gaither was putting ab new statesmen quartet togeather, I applied for the bass part as big chief passed away, so I sent a cd to Mr Gaither, but a got a letter from his secretary it was filled, I sang in 6 different quartets so I was ready but I would have to leave my wife at home, now I put on singing alone, I still love to hear the statesmen, Al york, torrance, California

I knew most of the songs, they were my favorite so when I retired from ups, I tried to take big chiefs part, but I was too late, the bad part is leaving my wife to travel and sing, I sang with 6 different quartets from 20 years old till I was 40, so I had the experience to do it and my voice was similar to big chiefs, I told my wife I'm going to sing everywhere I can, my name is al york I sang with the gospel truth quartet for 5 yeare

Here is a story From the good book we know A story 'bout a miracle That happened long ago We hope that you'll take courage When temptation you meet There's somebody watching you Who's strong when you're weak They wouldn't bend They held on to the will of God so we are told They wouldn't bow They would not bow their knee to the idol made of gold They wouldn't burn They were protected by the fourth man in the fire They wouldn't bend They wouldn't bow, they wouldn't burn Now the prophet Danial tells about Three men who walked with God Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego Before the wicked king they stood And the king demanded them Bound and thrown In the firey furnace that day But the fire was so hot That the men were slain Who forced them on their way Now when the few were thrown in And the king rose up To witness this awful fate He began to tremble at what he saw And in astonished tones he spake Did we not cast three men bound Into the midst of that fire Well though I see four men unhurt Unbound and walking down there There's Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego An' the fiery coals they trod And the form of the fourth man That I see is like the Son of God They wouldn't bend They held on to the will of God so we are told They wouldn't bow They would not bow their knee to the idol made of gold They wouldn't burn They were protected by the fourth man in the fire They wouldn't bend They wouldn't bow, they wouldn't burn

I read somewhere that Elvis listed Jake Hess as a big influence on his singing voice and you can definitely hear the resemblance in Jake's performance here!

Thanks for live performance film with James “Big Chief” Wetherington. We lost him way too soon from a heart attack which actually struck him at the Nashville Quartet Convention.
