You know those aircrews were brave when you remember that neither the airplane or the space shuttle had ejection seats.

I spoke with Fred Haise who landed the Enterprise. He joked that because Enterprise was set at positive angle of attack ie it was lifting the 747..that when detached they actually dropped the 747 and glided in for a perfect landing!

Removing the Victor Young music track is tinkering with originality...and disrespecting the composer. Worse, looping the t.o sequence creates spasmodic sound. In short, hardly worth bothering about....but that's just me, having watched this sequence, on and off, since 1956.

Nice - but “Designed to Deliver Nuclear Weapons” not literally correct - was designed before there were any nuclear weapons.

Great to watch but It looks like he rotated too soon and was starting to pick up quite a bit of drag. Luckily he had enough speed to transition to flight.

I was 16 years old when I saw my first B36 fly over Keene, Texas, while I was visiting there in 1958 at South Western 7th Day Adventist seminary, flying out of Carswell Air Force, a SAC. Base at that time, very distinctive sound, and very impressive.

I lived in Lancaster and my Dad worked at Edwards. I was six and my Dad brought me and my friend out to see this and many others including the first Columbia landing at Edwards. Is it any wonder I went on to become a pilot myself? Seems like yesterday. I’m 52 now.
