I like your saxes. I have a Yamaha 875 tenor circa 1995 and a Yamaha 875 EX II alto. If you ever have a chance, try the new Yamaha solid silver necks. I see you have a silver plated Yamaha tenor and the neck that comes with that sax is a silver plated neck, but it's not the solid silver neck. I can't find any better sax than my Yamaha's with the solid silver necks (I prefer the more modern sounding saxes). The solid silver necks add more depth and dynamics. I actually have solid silver necks in the E-1 and V-1 models. I use the E-1 neck with brighter mouthpieces or any mouthpiece with a bright reed. I use the V-1 neck with my warm sounding mouthpieces and warm sounding reeds.

Thanks for the comment! I love the Yamaha EX! I've just had the SBA overhauled and it is also amazing. I've decided to keep and play both as I enjoy playing them each in different settings. I actually did have a solid silver Yamaha neck. I think it was the C1. It sounded beautiful but I found the BSS neck had a little more warmth and focus. As I'm sure you know, there's no 'one' set-up! It really depends on what you're going for and how you play!

The first neck-Quality-the second neck -volume-Boston Sax- perfect to not offend. The first had the most musical sound-for me.

Nice job on each instrument! To me it is a decision of what your ideal tone is. My preference is towards the Selmer but I have been playing them since 1964. There is not a right or wrong answer but if you want a very Smokey sound then the Yamaha is the way to go and for less money.

Thanks for your comment! I enjoy playing both for different reasons. For overall playability I prefer the Yamaha and only for sound I prefer the Selmer.

The SBA has a clarity of tone that I like the most. The Yamaha also sounds very good and to someone that hasn’t grown up on hearing the signature Selmer sound, they would be totally satisfied with the Yamaha. The Yamaha would cost half what a good SBA would cost. And to the listener, they both sound great.

Thanks for the comment. It’s such an interesting point that you make. I still very much like the sound of my SBA and yet at the moment I prefer the Yamaha. I too grew up on the signature Selmer sound. I really enjoy the playability of the Yamaha and enjoy that it does sound different to a Selmer.

Nice! To me though, the SBA sounds clearer. The EX does sound more focused with the BSS neck

Thanks for the comment! I’m really enjoying seeing the different viewpoints on the horns. I’m enjoying playing the Yamaha at the moment, but perhaps I’m enjoying the change after playing the SBA for many years.

Great tune, great playing, and great audio/video quality. Sounds AMAZING on my new (but discontinued) Martin Logan Motion 40 towers, my new Schiit Audio Modi DAC, and my old Yamaha RX-496 stereo receiver. Thanks for posting.
