i think that akainu statement mostly just means that while luffy gets on a island and eventually figures out who to beat or kill, akainu would instantly just kill the threat and head out to the next island since he doesn’t waste time.

People who argue Mihawk struggled against Vista for some reason don't remember that Shanks lost an arm to a Sea King. So, ironically, following the same logic, Shanks is as strong as a fish, which is ridiculous and obviously untrue, don't know if they bring up the Vista thing because they have so little gray matter they actually believe it or to simply annoy Mihawk fans.

I think shanks and mihawk are both equal, oda has already confirmed all their fights ended with a draw, the only reason mihawk got the title was because shanks lost his arm, oda also confirmed that shanks hasn’t got weaker after he lost his arm, meaning currently their both equal, mihawk has better swordsmanship but shanks has stronger haki which balances them out

It would essentially (in mihawks eyes) be eliminating shanks from eligible swordsmen due to mihawk knowing how strong shanks was in the past and how much more stronger he’d be with his dominant arm. And mihawk not being willing to accept the results. But it seems like mihawks personality is more of an objective type not a philosophical type. If shanks objectively was as strong as he would have been had he had his dominant arm, and was at mihawk’s level. Do you think mihawk is the type to scorn shanks away from a challenge. I think Mihawk is stronger because I think haki strength is what most sword skill is. And that skill is the same as strength when it's said in One Piece. That is a good point that Big Mom is probably stronger than Zoro still. But, really, I think Oda is not doing a good job making things in One Piece clear.

The main issues is Oda always seem to a be ambiguous relating to Shanks and Mihawk, am not sure if we will ever get a true answer who is stronger even by the end of the story. Recently the panel which list Mihawk as having more sword skill then Shanks, however Mihawk's title in Japanese romaji is Sekai Saikyō no Kenshi. Now Saikyō is referring to the best or simply strongest and Kenshi is swordmen, so meaning the strongest among swordsmen similar to White Beard's title of Sekai Saikyō no Otoko = World's strongest man . When it comes to this in Japanese there is a very specific meaning and that is Mihawk the strongest of the swordmen category, however if you were to put in thw word skilled and replace the title strongest the Kanji in the Japanese title will no longer be the same. It's also should be noted that Zoro progression path in becoming stronger has never once indicated in the story that he needs to be more skilled in combat, it's just more power wise. His recent fight with King is just more power being conqueror Haki, so Oda suddenly adding something like skill when we have never seen it being referred to specifically all this while is confusing. But then again We also cannot ignored how op Shanks seemly display is, so we are back to the drawing board LOL

It's weird, but I have a question... If the world right now had to choose the world's strongest swordsman between Zoro and Big Mom, who will they choose? Also, how do you define and quantify the word "skill"? For your example, Mihawk can use his two hands for his skill, and Shanks can only use 1. Therefore, Mihawk is more skilled. Well, that's weird. Other swordsmen can also use two hands on their swords. Heck, Zoro uses 3 swords with 1 in his mouth. I would argue he is more skilled than Mihawk. What does it mean to be more skilled than another? Does skill translate to strength and power? Why or why not?

Mihawks Bounty reads Zankoku, which means a lot of things in japanese, if used to describe a situation of circumstance then it would probably be translated as Bleak, Desolate or Hopeless….thats exactly what Mihawks presence brings, and also its evident what the bounty is telling when u also consider Zoro’s remarks about seraphim Hawk as to how he is more human like than the real one…Oda will give us a huge surprise with Mihawk Im sure, be it in Mihawks favor or not

Excluding haki and strength from swordsmanship just doesn't work since Mihawk having his title only due to skill and not actual strength would make Zoro increasing his mastery of haki and overall strength basically irrelevant for his dream. Which would be a wild take since Zoro has conqueror's haki because of his ambition to be the strongest swordsman. As long as Shanks is classified as a swordsman he should be weaker than Mihawk. How could you be the strongest swordsman without being able to defeat every swordsman in combat? If Zoro sees Shanks and Mihawk fight and Shanks defeats Mihawk due to his haki being stronger and the like, then Zoro would set his sights on Shanks, regardless if Mihawk's technique was better. That ultimately didn't matter. The Mihawk bounty reveal being a source for arguing that Shanks is stronger doesn't really make sense to me since it essentially closes the door on the discussion of if Shanks is even a swordsman since it wouldn't make sense to hype up Mihawk's swordsmanship by comparing him to someone who isn't even a swordsman. Then for the umpteenth time Mihawk is reiterated to be the World's Strongest Swordsman.
