I’m American 🇺🇸 of Chaldean Catholic lineage from north Mesopotamia and a fluent speaker of Aramaic. The Lord spoke the Galilean dialect, I speak the Neo Babylonian of the new Aramaic dialect. It’s a more “advanced” form if you will as Babylon was the most advanced city of the known world; hence the necessity of introducing some new words, sounds, look at it as Internet, vlogging, texting, email, you get the idea, verbiage that didn’t exist a mere half a century ago. It’s the same alphabet (22 letters), word formation, sentence structure, grammar, text all of it is universal and transcends time. For the most part, somehow it retained its biblical scripted integrity. I learned Aramaic through descent of course. My ancient ancestors were the first Christian “community” to form when being Christian was dangerous business. In fact, many many of them martyred themselves in defiance to retain their newly adopted religion. It didn’t end there, persecutions are ongoing X 2024 yrs and they’re not the only ones. The entire regions of the Levant, of the Mediterranean amongst others are under constant and increased aggressions from within, mind you they’re the original natives ! Beyond any conceivable sadness. They were evangelized by Saint Thomas himself, I’m serious en route east to spread the message. The last victims when they fell under the wrath of the God forsaken isis (2014-16) effectively hammering in the final nail in the coffin of the beginnings of the church of the east. Nothing good came out of it other than their failure to successfully convert one family. Not one documented valid conversion. Less than 10% remain, 90% are being born in Sweden, the US, Australia, Canada, Germany wherever and the lord’s language is in serious danger of going totally extinct within a generation or so. It made a minor comeback in 2004 w Mel Gibson’s movie “passion of Christ”. More needs to be done, we can’t do it alone, we’re no more than 500 - 700,000 ppl worldwide, next to clergy, hardly anyone can read and write, we need to preserve this soulful language. Its language of the Bible, of the Lord, of the heavens, of the soul, of love, of peace, of humanity ! Peace to all ✌️ Shlama ta kulokhon ✌️ (it’s Aramaic- meaning is as the above line)
