This is so apt, in the context of the UK riots going on at the moment, with far right rioters "othering" immigrants and people of a different colour to themselves. If only these white folk realised that we are all related. They are literally rioting against their own brothers and sisters.

Interesting comment about number of grandparents. However many many people, if they go back to their great great great great grandparents will not find 64. They will find less, as they will find ancestors who married the descendant of another ancestor. This will be the case particularly if they come from a small town or village.

If ancestry was simply an exponential equation then he’d be right but it’s not. It simply means that going back several generations means that Western European people all essentially mostly married their fifth plus cousins as did Northern Europe and when you go to more insular cultures they were probably marrying their second plus cousins. Intermingling generally happened via localised osmosis and major intermingling only took place via major upheavals like invasion and war. To suggest that ethnic identity doesn’t exist is an absolute nonsense being sold only to Europeans as though our identity isn’t worth protecting.

Only problem is idenity is the human condition and the forming of a culture and a country never ends but history is vital to our undertsanding of oursleves and almost knowbody wants to let go of it. The people of the British Isles dispite all we have incommon are still divided by geographical birth and history. Humans are hard wired to see diffrence and point it out so they are not distroyed by the group. It is evolutionary social control that comes naturally to humans children do it all the time.

Incisively thought, beautifully delivered. A very small bone to pick with you, Stephen: “related to” is not the same thing as “descended from”! It doesn’t gainsay the broader point that we’re all family, but it is a real distinction.

The "Ice Age" is Noah's Ark for people who like to believe that they are clever. "The whole world was covered with water. Most humans and animals died out. The plants, meanwhile, never noticed it. And the handful of humans, dogs, deer, grasshoppers etc. survived by all bundling together. Only it was in caves rather than a boat! And the water that covered the world was frozen!" Utter nonsense. And anybody who promotes either version should be viewed as a spreader of falsehoods.

I love Stephen fry, but this is a Really poorly made argument, it assumes that each of your ancestors is distinct and unique, there is almost guaranteed to be significant overlap once you start getting to the higher amounts. I doubt uncontacted tribes in the amazon or on an island have Charlemagne's blood, and they have just as many ancestors as you! Sometimes, just sometimes, it literally is just pig farmers all the way back.

It's true but what's also true is Americans don't have the stomach for insane asylums no more. No their much more happier having these people living under bridges and trying to mug you on your way home then "being mean to them" in a institution.

I need help, please, clever internet people: I once saw a video of him talking about the same topics (exponential growth / the invention of chess / relations) but much more elaborate, e.g. him explaining the reaction of the moghuls advisors in much more detail, how they started to calculate and the inventor (described as an old man) first inviting the moghul to play and the moghul then, once he understood, that he could never fullfill the inventor's wish "reacting like any calm and civilised ruler should - he chopped of his head". Stephen also said more on the topic of us all being related. The speech was held in a kind of arena, with him walking around. It ended with "So, all I really wanted to say was - hello, brothers and sisters!". It cannot find the longer version again, but I' d really love to show to my students. Can anybody help?

Top left, distract him. Shoot the elevator to open it up, headshot and dump the body, then shoot and hide the top left guy before shooting the tail of the helicopter twice or 3 times right as the target and 2 of his bodyguards get out of the helicopter. You can shoot the two guys looking over the edge on the top right, and bottom right while those three move to the tail of the helicopter. All 3 can be shot with one bullet. There's plenty more optimization for this.

As with all people who feel that they can give life-lessons, before large audiences, we have to really turn listening into an art-form. He believes we are all connected ; all related ... in his specificity, he said :: "... even a hint of caucasian blood ..." we are all related (?) He has lied, twice, during this lecture & contradicted himself at least once :: he goes back to Charlemagne / Attila The Hun / the People who survived The Ice-Age ... maybe this guy is talking just about English people, but then he goes back to Charlemagne / Attila / the Ice-Age & no further. We are all connected by the Continent of Africa, not British Royalty / not Charlemagne / not Attila ... He disparages "racial-stock" theories & then talks about "caucasian" blood. Racial-stock theories cannot be so easily blown-off. Those theories have existed for hundreds of years ; culminating in the 19th C. to justify Slavery & "inferior" races. From those horrific theories, have come many horrific experiments & policy-decisions. He completely invalidates his "humanistic" posturing AND completely ignores the Oldest Imperial House of Japan ( 660 BCE ) ; established by Emperior Jimmu with 125 monarchs who followed him ; making the British Royal Family, amateurs ! This guy is an actor. Where is his scholarship to discuss so many topics ? He has videos all over YT giving his opinions on many subjects including AI & Robots. Actors can be very intuitive / brilliantly gifted, intellectually ( Hedy Lamarr, for example ). Fry isn't on that level if he can't get the Origins of Humans located on the right Continent. It obviously doesn't matter if he can play chess ! It's no guarantee he can translate that skill all over the place.

Wow... English comprehension is not your strong suit is it? Me thinks Stephen has triggered a WOKE-fuck snowflake to melt. 😱 I suggest you watch the video a second time and this time resist the urge to allow your head to explode with rage, you intellectually challenged fuck, and this time _listen_ to what he is saying - WITHOUT prejudgement - and how he is conveying his ideas. I won't hold my breath that you'll comprehend anything more of what he said a second time because you've already formed a biased opinion of what you failed to hear the first time. Dipshit.

OK guys this is dangerous, misinformative BS with an incredibly dark agenda ..DNA is what makes us unique and defines your "race". You don't share ancestral DNA with some far distant relatives..And what makes your 8th Jewish or Muslim great grandfather unique? I am of Germanic descent- so I'm fair skinned, have blue eyes and fair hair, a direct result of my DNA, try and convince me otherwise. Deal with it.
