do you need a special kind of phone to use the 8x8 app to work on a regular phone. I want to use it so I can use my Poly headset that only works on phones?

The app works in conjunction with a phone registered to the 8x8 cloud so it’s special in that instance. There might be a way to use your headset with the computer with an adapter or with Bluetooth if it supports it.

Great that should work. It should be a matter of pairing up the headset with the computer / laptop. Once that’s done the app should detect this as a new device to use.

It’s definitely scary when things fall into the wrong hands. There’s always someone who will misuse an innovation for bad but the again that is human behavior since the beginning of time. You’ll be surprised to find how much more you’ll be able to get done through AI. It’s main focus today is to function as a compliment to humans. That’s why we’re hearing products like “co-pilot” and “companion”. Some software companies have fully automated the mundane tasks that require precision so people can focus on more important activities. I would encourage anyone to try these tools out to see what they like and how it can be incorporated into their workflow. A lot of people are surprised by the gains achieved by using AI.

Well, I had a different experience. All too often private broadband providers milk the consumer but provide poor quality service. City providers, while often a little cheaper, long term do the same. I finally had enough and bought a SIM card router and started using an unlimited data plan to power my WiFi (via WiFi extenders throughout the house or take the device into my motorhome) for $20 per month ($23 incl. Tax). No more Internet cable, no more TV cable bills, etc. anymore ....... just $23 per month.

I appreciate your response about your experience. Yes it really all depends on what’s available in your city. The experience is even worse in rural areas where there’s only one option in town. Wireless as an alternative to fixed broadband is a great choice as long as the provider doesn’t have restrictions with data usage. I’ve worked with many customers where cell coverage is poor and fiber is out of reach leaving them with few options to consider. The point with this Short is understanding that providers have more incentives to improve connectivity which should be better for consumers. Mileage will always vary depending upon the given provider and their ability to take care of user base.

Thanks for the info. There may be several variables involved. I go deeper into the possibilities in this answer below from my Quora post. I would try using another mobile / desktop device (if possible) using the same set of headphones to see how that works. Another suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall the app to see if that makes a difference. Good question Randy. I would reach out to 8x8 to see if it’s possible. My brief knowledge base look up didn’t show relevant results for me but they do have developers that should be able to answer your question. Second thing to point out is the status page is handled by Statuscast which has a dedicated API reference guide can be found here support.statuscast.com/reference/introduction. Hopefully between these two resources you’ll be able to get an answer.

There used to be a way to delete messages but it looks like that feature has been taken away. One idea is to hide the message so it’s not visible. Besides that, we don’t have a way to delete this 😕 Sounds like a feature request for 8x8 to reconsider.

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it 😃 I can give you a subjective answer but that doesn’t really help. The one thing to consider with 8x8 vs Google Voice is how it fits within your environment. If you’re deep into the Google ecosystem and want an integrated experience, then you may be better off with GV. If you’re looking for global support for numbers in several different countries, integration with Microsoft Teams and a feature packed contact center, than 8x8 is a better fit. While I’m only familiar with the consumer version of GV, it wasn’t a great experience even as a long time user. The business version I hear is much better and offers more functionality but it’s not a platform I’ve had first had experience. My experience overall with 8x8 has been solid. There’s a few things to watch out for and you’ll need to be comfortable being hands on when issues arise or have a partner to step in. Looking out for 8x8 customers is one of the reasons for the channel and I hope to provide more content in the future. If there’s anything else I can answer for you let me know.

Thanks Amer! One thing to mention quickly is that group SMS is not supported through the 8x8 Work app at this time. There’s a separate function for sending bulk messages using their SMS API. The specific app you may be interested in is called 8x8 SMS Engage which allows surveys to be included. For instance, once a SMS is sent out to contractors, they click a link to update their work availability for the day using preset selections. If you’re tech savvy or have access to a developer, the SMS API can be integrated into your business workflow accordingly. Here’s a few links that describe this further. Thanks for the feedback Elaine! You’ll want to edit the user profile for the person needing this number. Once you do this, look for the section titled “Voice basic settings”. From here you’ll see the current number assigned to this user (if already present), remove it and then assign the number available. Keep in mind that numbers are assigned on a per user basis so if the number you want is in use, it needs to be removed from a user before giving to someone else. Great question. Just tested this and you can see multiple pages from the viewer. You'll see two indications of this: 1. On the sent and received items on the left side of the desktop app, you'll see the number of incoming pages. For instance if it's 3 pages, the log will show "Received 3/3 pages". 2. When viewing the contents of the fax, a single page will appear with an option for "Prev" or "Next" page arrows. In the scenario of 3 pages, you'll be able to click Next until all 3 pages are viewed. Also keep in mind that faxes do expire after 60 days once in the app but can be downloaded for permanent storage directly to your device.

Thanks for the question. You'll want to try a few things to figure out if it's a problem with your laptop, connection to the Internet or issue with the app itself. 1. Try using 8x8 Work on a colleagues laptop or another laptop all together to see if you can login with your credentials. If that works, then we know it's something specific to the laptop itself. 2. Login to 8x8 Work for Web on the affected laptop, work-beta.8x8.com/, to see if it's allowing connections to the 8x8 network (I did a video on the steps to do this kzbin.info/www/bejne/pou1nXt3jKh-osU). 3. Finally try another Internet connection. If you're on a corporate network, it's possible that access to the ports for this app are blocked. If that's the case, then you'll contact your IT staff for assistance. Basically if your on another Internet connection outside of work and this works fine, then that corporate connection might be the culprit. Those are a few ideas to work through. Hope this helps!

That's correct. At the time of this recording, this app was free to use. They've since then moved to a subscription. Another way to test drive this is using Jitsi Meet which is what 8x8 Video Meetings is built off of.

@@alaanaji7903 makes sense. I've reached out to 8x8 for clarification since I read two different cases on language support. One mentions the app takes on the language of the OS while another shows a list of supported languages. Once I hear back I'll update this thread.
