0:09 Not only is the mockingbird making an alarm/distress call, but if you listen closely in the background you can also hear a squirrel making its alarm/distress call too. They both know the cat is a problem

Mockingbirds only do this when others are near their nests

One of these idiot birds dropped their chick in my backyard from a nest somewhere nearby and my dogs tried to play tug of war with it (it died). Needless to say now I have this annoying thing in my backyard constantly trying to peck my dogs. Anyone know how to get rid of this nuisance?

Geez, all the hate comments are sickening. Damn sociopaths. Mockingbirds do this when a predator gets too close to their nest. You think that mockingbird is aggressive... get too close to one of my kids!

Ella its also ironic how you defend mockingturds yet clearly love eagles. What do eagles eat? I'll give you a hint, these flying car alarm pests
@rachellee26807 жыл бұрын
You must live in his territory. Cats, dogs, and sometimes humans are seen as a threat to male mockingbirds, so he'll swoop down to attack when he thinks your too close to his nest. P.S. Rest in peace, Holly.

You're right. The behavior stops once the babies have fledged.

We have one of these birds come to our neighborhood every June. it's very aggressive and always swoops in front of our window when my cat sits there.

*I'm NOT judging* - But my blood froze when I saw those cars going by! Please folks, *if you are able* keep your feline pal indoors and DO NOT declaw. They live soooo much longer when they are protected from the dangers of the outdoors. So sad to read that he's no longer alive. I cry when I'm with mine and I think about that horrible day that will come, sometime in the future. I savor EVERY SECOND that I have with my cat... He's one lucky SOB to have adopted us!
@b4ssfunk3d8 жыл бұрын
They do the same with my cat but he surprises them cause he is a psychopathic animal that kills rats at night. They unsuspectingly swoop on him and he has reflexes as sharp as a tack and he usually gets them on the first swoop down.. I try to rescue them because I don't want to see them get killed but if he has already pinned them it is too late.

I agree with you Nicholas!!! I live on a dead end street and I have one that nests around here. It has like a dozen calls and sings away day and night right around my house...I'm done with this bird, time to meet my pellet rifle!!!

Hope someone reported you to the authorities since native birds are protected under the migratory bird act. Mockingbirds ONLY sing at night when they haven't found a mate yet, such as a mockingbird looking for his first mate, or one that has lost a mate. Hopefully... after 3 years of you posting this, you received a mental health evaluation and treatment.

@autumnwhispers2me6 жыл бұрын
A ferret should never be outside, because they are prey to almost everything. They're domesticated and completely dependent on humans for survival. Once they're treated to the experience of the outdoors... they will always try to get out. Mockingbirds who do this are protecting their babies. "The most dangerous place in the world is between a parent and their child."
@Rissaa0311 жыл бұрын
I wonder why they do this? They did this to my Chihuahua one time and knocked her over! She is only 3 lbs. Maybe they are trying to protect a nest or something. Or maybe it's for fun? hmmm
@autumnwhispers2me6 жыл бұрын
I realize it was 4 years ago when you posted, but since no one answered you.... Mockingbirds only do this when they're defending their nest and babies. And no, they never do this for 'fun.' It's not fun to be stressed and anxious, not even for animals, and they're reacting on fear due to a predator, human or animal doesn't matter. Once their babies fledge and can fly well... they won't do this anymore. The male of the pair who claimed my yard as their nesting territory went after a snake for this same reason. Snakes will go into nests and eat eggs and young. Raccoons, cats, squirrels and chipmunks will do the same way. If you had children and had to live in the open among predators that went after your babies... you'd be fighting like hell too.

Ella I sincerely hope you get a mockingturd singing all night, every night by your bedroom for over a month. You'll change your tune real quick

Mockingbirds are jerks, tbh. But it's funny watching them gang up on crows that are twice their size. They give no f*cks.
