I’m no expert on cheese, but it is my understanding that whey is typically acquired as a byproduct of cheese production. Certainly brunost has a production process afterward and we did read up on that before recording. Just an ad-lib 😉

We took out the rental company’s recommended policies for wind, gravel, etc. Knowing our luck if we skipped it I’d open the van door and watch it get snapped off into a ravine somewhere! We also had credit card standard rental coverage. But we did not seek out any supplemental third party coverage.

Driving in Switzerland? Don’t hit the road without a Vignette! It’s a toll decal that grants you access to motorways and expressways. Rather than large toll gates drivers are able to enter and exit the roadways much like we would the interstate in the US. Using these roadways without a vignette can bring some hefty fines. Asthildur at (asthildurbridal dot com) did my hair and makeup! I ordered the flower crown from a Reykjavik area florist, Reykavikur Blom (Blum dot IS) and picked it up the day before. I started by sending an inquiry through her website and we continued via email from there. She came to the airbnb, which I was great! I would definitely recommend her. I _did_ end up blotting away some makeup after the ceremony for the photos, because I am someone who prefers very minimal coverage, and I did not do an excellent job communicating that when I said I wanted a natural look. That's on me! She did send me off with a small touch up kit, including a tiny pallet of lip color she mixed for me. :)

Hey Earl! I (James) also have a Samsung phone, and boy, have I got some good news for you! Samsung makes a similar tracker called the Galaxy SmartTag, and it works the same way AirTags do by pinging off other nearby Samsung phones to update its location in nearly real time. Our bags got left behind in Toronto on our way back to Charlotte, and being able to see where our bags were in the terminal made it easy for us to help them get found. They're definitely worth it in our opinion!

The constant focus on money in many of these videos seems a bit sad. 🤔Switzerland is a premium travel destination with the corresponding prices. Tourists should focus more on travelling to destinations they can afford. The rest can watch YT videos. Compared to some prices of travel destinations in the US, Switzerland is cheap. I don't see many people complaining about spending $ 275 per PERSON per DAY for a family of 4 at Disneyland, only to spend the whole day standing in lines for 2 hours per ride for 4 rides. At Gornergrat, you could hike down to Zermatt in 3 hours on an unforgettable trail for free and discover the fabulous nature and create lifelong memories. Priceless! 😏😉
@AwayWithTheMays5 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that you feel videos like these are sad! We had a beautiful time experiencing Switzerland affordably, and we did so by making careful budgetary choices. Where you may see a focus on money, others see transparency. There are a lot of reasons someone might choose to make a video speaking to the financial details, and we choose to do it to help people conceptualize and prepare for what a trip would look like for them if they choose to pursue it themselves. What is in our budget may not be in the budget of others and vice versa, and it’s up to them to determine what that budget is. Affordability is subjective. There’s no harm in putting the information out there to let a viewer determine for themselves if they’d like to consider visiting. Some people make KZbin videos to help people live vicariously through them, and as you imply. Some videos are designed to give people information. On this channel you’d expect to see the latter. Information helps people make decisions about their own lives and plans. You will also not see us spending $275 per person per day at Disney world. That’s not how we choose to spend our money or time. For those that do, great. And I imagine there are hundreds of channels that showcase doing just that. As you say, Switzerland can be very cheap. Our videos in this series are transparent about the budget meals, campsites, and affordable experiences. Feel free to circle back to earlier videos in this series for a look ☺️
@EarlSwinton7765 ай бұрын
I, for one, appreciate the pricing information. As someone who is careful about budgeting, it's helpful to know how much something is gonna cost, and to know if something is potentially worth what it costs. Also, way to gatekeep, man. If someone wants to do something and doesn't want to spend a ton of money doing it, good for them! If people focused on traveling the way you prescribe to be correct, then tons of people wouldn't get to experience many of these wonderful places, and THAT is truly sad. To the Mays, keep doing the good work! There are plenty of people out here that appreciate the effort you're making to inform all of us
@AwayWithTheMays5 ай бұрын
@@EarlSwinton776 So glad you’re finding these helpful! Videos are a more recent venture for us after several budget trips over the years. Perhaps as a budget-minded traveler yourself you might agree - the research can be so much FUN. Seeing how others navigate different locations with their own budgets as it compares to yours personally in the planning stages of a trip is so helpful and entertaining. We want to help people feel prepared for their own travel! Perhaps a $145 round trip train ticket is no matter for some, and for others it requires some careful planning and weighing of options and priorities. Thank you again for your kind comment! If there is anything specific you'd like to see us try to speak to in terms of budgeting, please let us know. The next video is in the works now, and we're likely going to have a "Switzerland on a Budget" video at the end of this series to discuss some key takeaways for those that just want the highlights.

@AwayWithTheMays6 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you so much! I emailed a couple of the goðar individually to ask about them performing our ceremony. You can find a list of all of them and their email addresses here: asatru.is/godar/ The website is completely in Icelandic so Google Translate is your friend here. To the best of my knowledge, the ones that are ordained to perform marriages are able to do so everywhere in the country, but it would be best to choose one that lives close to where you want to have your ceremony since they will charge travel fees. We used Haukur Bragason because he was the closest to our destination, but he ended up being the coolest guy! He was very responsive to my emails and was incredibly helpful with navigating the paperwork and all the legal hoops we needed to jump through. He was also super nice and very easy to get along with, and his personality made our big day that much better.
