Hello sir and at first thx for all these videos wich are very very usefull for a homebuilder as I am !🙏 I plan to install felt padding on the leading edges of my Murphy Renegade but I do not find anywhere any information on how to apply glue between padding and fabric. I understood that not much glue is needed between padding and leading edge (only on periphery) but do I have to apply glue on all the surface of the padding when installing the fabric or do I have to put just one strip of glue then complete the complete surface gluing after heat shrinking ? Thx in advance and happy end of year celebrations 😃

Sorry, it doesnt work with our system. we go to dry fabric with primer, so it needs to be glued to leading edge, call office for more info.

Thanks for the update! i painted my Fuselage 2 years ago with the old system , plan on doing the wings this coming spring. My colors were Juneau white 000015 Victory red 000686 Royal Blue 000372 and Jet Black 000611 will these colors cross match to the new system? Thanks the Fuselage paint came out great! John

Thank you for this. I just verified that none of my outstanding paint has a ‘1’ in front of the paint code so I will use the 3:1:1 formula denoted in the spec sheet. BTW, my wing came out beautifully & thank you for your help.

I had a hard time learning from other videos. I found your demo of the superflight knot easy to do reliably though. Thank you. I'm curious why every stitch doesnt get a half hitch like the last stitch to lock it independently, . Would it actually add integrity to the knot? (for experimental aircraft)

It’s because the string is continuing on to the next lace . Don’t over think it. It’s not like we are pulling on it. It’s just for keeping fabric to rib. All the glue locks it in

How do you prevent the stringers from pulling inboard under tension (non necessarily pulled to one side or the other)? Do the stringers typically hold up to the full 350f shrink without bowing inwards?
@robbiestaton6044 ай бұрын
Even heat on all sides as you shrink

How long is polyfiber good for if it's unused and hangared?
@robbiestaton6044 ай бұрын
Don’t know what you mean hangared. Unused mean it hasn’t been applied. If you mean on a plane and hangared , our system could go 50 yrs. Far too long to not look at an airframe.
@FourthWayRanch4 ай бұрын
@robbiestaton604 it was a kolb someone bought factory built and they never used it. Been in hangar 15-20 years, it looks new, probably good for a while longer then

That's absurd for a J3. I guess I'll keep flying my perfectly fine, though a bit aged, Cub and we'll all be happy: Those shops will have their fabric and time on their hands and I'll have my money. @@robbiestaton604

Thanks for filming these videos. Helps a lot learning in advance how to lay a fabric. Even though it is a Sonerai that I will need to cover (metal wings) getting the general understanding on working with fabric helps with other places like rudders where similar techniques are used. Will go an EAA course first but watching you videos gives a jump start!

Once as a young man I used to race motocross and worked in a dealership that serviced and sold general and competition classed bikes. It was interesting how many people would come in and have an issue with one bike in the same class being 8lbs heavier than the one beside it. Despite the heavier one being faster, having a better power to weight ratio, suspension etc. So these people were making an issue of the 8lbs heavier bike while the customer would be 25lbs overweight. Now that I'm an older man and 30lbs overweight I know longer blame the extra coat of primer or paint.

@3:03 "There's no way I can show you how to paint. I been doing it for 25, 30 years and I still don't know how to paint" I literally laughed out loud. I'm exactly the same way. Been painting forever, it usually turns out okay but I still don't know how to paint and certainly couldn't tell somebody else how to do it. Subscribed 😆

I am building a 1928 Morgan three wheeler Aero which has a wood frame and is covered with fabric and then originally nitrate but I believe I am going to use Butyrate dope. I believe I will be able to use inexpensive Dacron or ceconite because it will not be flying. If you see this what are your thoughts on what I am trying to accomplish.

Thanks Robbie, I painted my first car (62 corvair) in 1968 after my brother fender bent it one Friday night. I remember when monocoat first came out around the same time the Beattles. Before we glues tissue paper down to balsa withe dope and Ambrose orange colored glue. Then on to airplanes and dopes and synthetic finishes. I always thought that a paint chemists nightmare would be "paint and seal this fabric on a dynamic structure." Wet edges rule, the landing flair, the gas welded puddle, eye to hand coordination is the mark of a blessed man.

What is the best way to remove paint from fabric in order to do a new paint job?
@airtechcoatings Жыл бұрын
Sanding to rough it up so new paint holds. If old paint it peeling ,will not work. Recover time. Fabric no doubt still good. So only cosmetic . Repaint is most of time not a good idea.
