Hugely reassuring for those who are used to exercise. However, I have avoided high impact for years because of arthritis through all my joints. So I have been using heavy weights on gym equipment, but it hasn’t prevented osteoporosis (on the cusp). I like to think that doing a modest number of plyometric movements could be OK, as the arthritis is still considered mild.

On the same day I broke my left hip and had replacement surgery I had to cancel the last visit for the implants ro be placed. I have no bone loss in my jaw but now no teeth and I canned eat with no back teeth upper and lower. I lost them during a horrible assault.EVENITY can destroy the jaw bone. Would they need a feeling tube?

This is such valuable information. What a shame hospitals, or trauma and orthopaedic departments don't link this into discharge notes. I felt vulnerable, fragile and quite frankly really worried about the way the hospital described me on my discharge notes - I was not the person they described before my accident and I didn't think I was when I was an inpatient. I was classified by my age, the fact that I'd broken my femur and that I lived alone. There was no reference to the fact that I spent 8 hours on the floor waiting for an ambulance! The whole experience had the effect of making me feel very anxious and depressed about my future. Ten weeks on, no longer being on hip restrictions, driving and becoming social again I've done a lot of my own research and I'm now feeling much more positive.

Osteoarthritis doesn't heal. I had one compression fracture 13 months ago. Now it's twice the size just from bending over to pull a little grass away from the flower bed. Lady you don't know what your talking about.

I'm wondering why I haven't been given any exercise programmes to do by the hospital.. It's over a year since I had two compression fractures (and when an earlier third was discovered). Before the fractures I practiced yoga most days at home. Every time I mentioned exercise post these fractures, I got a shrug of the shoulders and a dismissive look. It's been a nightmare year frankly. All the pain I've gone through and no help whatsoever. I'll be following these exercises now - definitely. I can't wait to start

People with physical disabilities are a massively overlooked population who are at increased risk of osteoporosis due to reduced access to weight bearing exercise, yet no screening or intervention is offered.

I was diagnosed 2 days ago. I'm 40 and it's totally messed with my mind. I've broken 5 bones in 12 months. Last one was my rib trying to workout at home. Horrible condition.

This talk is very bias against REMS. The speaker SHOULD HAVE said that the DXA scanner can ALSO HAVE all the same issues. Poorly trained technician, poor positioning of the patient, false reassurances in the presence of osteoarthritis. DXA is far from perfect. The literature proves that. REMS results are NOT dependant on the technician, patient positioning or osteoarthritis or surgical hardware.

Subclinical hyperthyroidism or hyperthyroidism cause low bone density. I would like to warn anybody who is not gaining weight to get thyroid test. Check TSH levels and if suppressed get a thyroid ultrasound. My son is 22, Never puts on weight and other symptoms. I went private for a dexa sxan and he has osteoporosis at 22, Also low Testosterone. No Dr would of thought to get him a dexa scan. Its only because i have subclinical hyperthyroidism and diagnosed osteopenia at 36, That i got my sons bone density checked.

More pharma BS, no advice on diet exercise just drugs drugs drugs. Check out the COMB study for an alternative to using dangerous drugs. "According to the results, this combined micronutrient supplementation regimen appears to be at least as effective as bisphosphonates or strontium ranelate in raising BMD levels in hip, spine, and femoral neck sites. No fractures occurred in the group taking the micronutrient protocol."
