A beautiful family all very friendly and welcoming. We stayed 2 nights on the farm on the 3rd and 4th July,2024, it was a great experience. We recommend everyone who may travel up to Paddle Sack, Tibooburra,Cameron's Corner to stop and stay with some of the family. It is easy access into the Station. All facilities and views excellent. Brilliant to see a functioning family team at work, with all the necessary qualities of openness, humility, communication as well as management and specialist expertise and love for the land. I assume all the ponding is from bore water, which would make me wonder about long term sustainability.

A great lesson in philosophical positivity, as well as an interesting land management experiment. I'd love to hear a 7 or 10yr update, including an assessment of effect on the native species that were there long before the cattle & sheep. Can they thrive too, or are they pushed out?

Why do you farmers call herds mobs?
@christinesavage48373 жыл бұрын
Not sure how widespread but I grew up on property with around 500 dairy cows. My father always refered to the total as running a herd of cattle and herd breeding was recorded in the herd book. However, the herd was divided into different mobs. The yearling mob, steers being fattened for market, heifers, milkers etc. However in the clip Chris was talking about mob as a verb. You mob livestock up to move them in a controlled manner. She lets them speadout a bit for grazing and then pushes them into a tighter formation to move them to next site...that is mobbing up.
@chapmansbg3 жыл бұрын
@@christinesavage4837 yeah it is obvious what it means but growing up cattle moved in herds, mob was something that black fella referred to his tribe/people. Maybe that came from the large cattle farms up north? Herding and Mobbing are jobviously synonymous but I don't remember ever hearing it used like this. Thanks for you feedback, I think I will start using mob/mobbing/mobs more generously. Onya!

The Kangaroo Management Taskforce and Pastoralists' Association of West Darling continue to vilify the kangaroo at any opportunity while at the same time blocking (on FB) anyone who comments contrary to their opinions. The comment by 'griggmedia' that "Most pastoralists love and respect kangaroos" is certainly NOT reflected on the FB pages of these 'organisations'

Congratulations Christine. Thanks for contributing to #Landcare through sustainable agriculture. A lovely video of doing great things in an unforgiving environment. Are you on Target 100? Your story would be fabulous demonstrating the sophisticated and thoughtful management techniques producers use to consumers and the public. cheers
