I don't hate the take - more because of how an umpire feeds off of catcher/pitcher chemistry. A well set up, well placed, well framed pitch maybe Should be a strike, just off the plate - and this call can also be 'discovered' by pitcher and catcher depending upon what ump 'gives'. And when a catcher sets up high and outside and the pitch comes in low and tight, and the catcher has to reach across the plate to prevent a pass ball... maybe that should be a ball, even if it's over the plate. There definitely is an art to baseball that could be sterilized and lost with a analytical robo-ump.
