It's a shortening of the term "thumbnail sketch" which was used to mean a quick and small drawing

You’re not filming ….there is no FILM involved. You are video recording. Two different things.

Thanks for the clarification! While you're right about the technical difference, most people use the terms 'film' and 'video' interchangeably these days. In theory, it becomes cheaper, safer and might help with emergencies amongst other things...but as ever there are always "buts"...what about security, privacy, jobs etc? Maybe I can finally get a pizza delivered by drone...!

A thumbnail is exactly that, a small image that helps the viewer see what a video is about before watching. Most sites will randomly pick a single frame from your video to use as the thumbnail, but this may not look good, may not accurately represent the video, or may not make the viewer want to click through and watch. Whenever you look at video recommendations on your KZbin homepage or search results, you're looking at thumbnails.

Hi, thank you for the clear video! I was thinking of making videos mainly in my own language (which isn't English) and using English subtitles. Do you think it's best to put the subtitles directly on my videos or through the yt feature?

Hi! If your main target audience would be english speaking people, then add the subtitles onto your video directly. If you just want english speaking people to be able to watch the video, then use the KZbin subtitles (but give them a quick check through if you're using the auto-generated ones).

Will embedded subtitles give you an SEO advantage? Does Google search those or do you basically have to use SRT in order to get benefit from Google searching?

That is a great question. I don't think Google will be able to pick up that the embedded subtitles are there, whereas, with SRT they 100% can. So, in that regard, there is definitely a benefit to having SRT subtitles.
