Thank you for posting this. I am in Grad school to be an SLP, and I think to specialize in reading and literacy is becoming a bigger draw for me in our field!

You could also switch to an Intraverbal statement such as, "It's a _____(child says ball)-fill in the blank. Another thing you can do is just hold the ball and say "ball" and then just just hold it and the child says"ball". You could make a game of it and have maybe 5 items on the table and whichever item you point to, the child responds with the name of the item. All of this will of course depend on where the child's understanding is and what the goal is at that time(labelling or answering questions).

My toddler is learning Georgian and English at the same time. We speak almost 100% Georgian at home and they speak English at the daycare. So he got a bit confused while communicating. He does it perfectly at home but at the daycare he is somehow hesitant to openly communicate with teachers and other kids. He is almost 2 y/o soon.

My son communicates but doesn't use words. I know what he wants and communicate to him that I know but sometimes the answer needs to be no and the fit starts. That's where communication breaks down.

Thank you for the tips, my twin daughters turned two in nov and i feel like ive failed them as a father.
My 2 year old son has a tantrum on things as simple as me telling him come here mommy and they are so bad he keeps banging his head into walls or closets . His head keeps bruising and one time he cut the back of his head and needed several stitches . Doctor told me he will grow out of it and not to give it much meaning 🫠 crying my eyeballs out rn😊

I’m sorry, where is she citing her sources and stats from and how is she qualified to speak on this specialized category? Who doesn’t need someone to help them calm down?! I don’t care how old you are or how mature your nervous system is, we all need supportive ppl to help us with very charged emotions. I had to stop after 1:55min in. This lady is “not typical,” as a true professional! lol

As someone with ASD 1 I just do normal therapy. I've never been to a speec therapist before despite mild stuttering I learned to accept it. Just like elon musk.

I didn't know I was dyslexic and my entire life I would joke about being illiterate and my brother one time when I joked to him was like you actually are do you remember having to take speech classes when you were little and I remembered staying after school but I didn't know for what and I found out from my older brother that I was dyslexic isn't that awesome😂

It definitely delays speech a little bit at the beginning , a brain that is exposed to one language doesn't have to handle the massive quantity of information that one that is exposed to 2 languages.

What should a caregiver do, when using different play processes to encourage speech, that as soon as the toddler (18-19mo) doesn't get what they want/something doesn't go the way they expect, the default is brain shattering screaming? I've done the bubble process but because toddler insists on taking the bubbles (which I didn't allow) the screaming tantrum ensued. At that point I put the bubbles away and offer a different activity. I know this reaction must be based on frustration/big feelings and it happens multiple times per day...toddler isn't allowed out of stroller quick enough, playing with a toy doesn't go they way he expects....
