" Isn't it Romantic" was from film "Love Me Tonight" in which Myrna Loy had one of her best early roles, although her only singing performance in film (of the song "Mimi") was sadly taken out of the film when it was released later on because of the Hays Production Code. Hopefully some day it gets restored to the film and available for the public to view. Myrna Loy was a class act and so was Bobby Short.

They should choose another tenor for this production, the same level of Hvorostovsky and Norman, to make their technical problems less evident. Close to Giacomini they both sound just absolute NO....

Great to be able to have an online refresher course with her anytime I need one. She was such a character! Not very politically correct, though. Her bigotry put a serious dent in my career, but-all’s well that ends well. I miss you, Miss Chalifoux.

Miss Tureck was my piano teacher's teacher, so some humble way I am her student. :) Her Goldberg Variations interpretation is almost as eccentric as Gould's, but in some ways I prefer it.

WOW. I met Earl Wild in NYC in July 2005 at the Mannes College of Music. His kickoff to his 90th birthday celebration. I also attended the master class the following day and he mentioned to one of his students the part about 'why are you looking up? God isn't going to help you!' I loved hearing him say that in this interview!! <3

'why are you looking up? God isn't going to help you!' That is wonderful! I don't want to see facial contortions from performers either.

A close friend and I had a table right next to the piano for what would end up being one of Short's final shows at The Carlyle. We chatted him up briefly afterwards, and he was exactly the same offstage as on - witty, impossibly debonnaire, and a bit haughty (in a good way). 20 years on, we still talk about that show, and regard going to see it as one of the smartest moves we ever made. Short was truly one of a kind.

The music teacher at the Rochester Institute of Technology was a fan of PDQ Bach. He played "New Horizons in Musical Appreciation" for us and led the university chorus in singing "My Bonnie Lass she Smelleth". That was enough to convince me to buy my first PDQ Bach Album, "The Wurst of PDQ Bach". He was brilliant.
