What I’ve heard here just now, resonates so well with what I’ve been always thinking about. How liberating it is to hear the names of Origen and Pelagius without those gruesome titles of being heretic ? but with the honorable apellations of being the ancestor ? So that’s the point, I think, the difference is being closeted, or being openly accepting and manifesting, and, of course it’s a lot healthier and fun, when you opt for the latter. Though I was more inclined to what I was hearing about Origen, as long as one remains in the traditional boundary, you can’t be ok about yourself, have to hide yourself, keep one’s actual belief secret, like it’s sin. By calling onself « a Unitarian », by giving oneself that name, now you have this revolution, no more hiding, but coming into the light and revealing. How awesome should it be ? And naming was the Adam’s business. I haven’t joined the congregation yet. I think I will soon.

As a Christian I thought her sermon was not so good. she needs to do better history research and get the facts straight. As I listened to her sermon, she made a good number of false statements that are common tropes among the ill-informed anti-religious populace, told a number of superficial stories that mix conspiracy theories with legendary anti-Christian tales. She spoke a little like the people who claim that Christmas is really the worship of Horace, or some other deity of ancient paganism. Then she appropriates a number of famous authors (probably unjustifiably). All in all, her presentation is very superficial silly stuff. And, of course, she lays claim to every 'good' thing she can think of as the product of little threads of UU proto belief all through history. What a horribly distorted account she gives. No wonder she wants to have the symbols of every religion she can think of on her "mural" - the wall behind her. It's a bad example of unitarian Universalism, I suspect.

The thing that I found to be most objectionable about this church is that it is far too political. The people that I came in contact with at my local church tended to be socialists and social activists with an anti-capitalist agenda. Also, I found many of them to be closed minded when they were confronted with facts that went against their belief systems. For example; me, as a free thinking Libertarian was not welcome within their social circle and that was fine because I had better places to go.

REASONS WHY THE CHURCH OF CHRIST IS THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH 1. You can read about it in the New Testament. (MATTHEW 16:18; ROMANS 16:16; ACTS 4:12) 2. It has no creed but the Bible, binds no name on members but Christ’s. (ACTS 11:26; l PETER 4:16) 3. Its acts of worship are patterned after New Testament examples. (JOHN 4:24; ACTS 20:7; I CORINTHIANS 16:1-2; EPHESIANS 5:19; COLOSSIANS 3:16) 4. It teaches that UNITY can be achieved on all doctrinal disputed questions. (JOHN 17:21; I CORINTHIANS 1:10; EPHESIANS 4:4-6) 5. Its future: Eternal Glory with Christ. (I THESSALONIANS 4:17; MATTHEW 7:14) YOU CAN’T BE SAVED ANY OTHER WAY

Tis that old cross road and the way called strait, there’s just one way to the pearly gate. “There’s Only One Provider” THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS CHURCH OUTSIDE OF NEW TESTAMENT TEACHINGS (ROMANS 10:1-3; ROMANS 10:18-21)

Wow. This just demonstrates the fact that Uuism is basically an empty husk, unto which anybody can squirt any old thing they want. Problem with this isn its unsustainable. Eithere there are right answers, or there aren't. If there *are* right answers, then the only legitimate purpose for debate is to *discover* them. There's no reason to even ask a question nif you presume that it isn't (at least to some degree) answerable. Uuismbs whole gimmick involves preserving the *outer shell* of "organized" religion h an explicitly Protestanthlooking shell, btw - and pretending to be magnanimous and vtolerant" by explicitly "permitting" people to believe whatever they already happen to believe. That's why most UUs are disgruntled selfhexiles from religions with actual content. Have fun beeaten alive by Wokesters for being too White, heteronormative, etc. Uuism sucks because its basically a parody religion whick doesn't understand thatbfact. Ibm right, and your latest schism proves it.
@kb3ojg461 Жыл бұрын
Gonna be honest: If fundamentalism is heroin, then Uuism Is methadone. You (mostly) ditch supernaturalism, unquestionable literal reading of "sacred" texts, etc., but you still needto believe that the hours you vinvestedv in your former churchztenplezmosque etc. Weren't time being stolen from you by charlatains, ao you stumble into Uuism because it gives you a halfway plausible excuse to play-act the external trappings of religion ("practices"}, as ends in themselves, and pretend that the other cowards huddling under the same pseudo-denominational "label" have more in common with you than any random passerby. Uuism is basically a parody religion for people who grew out of the literalism ever actually "believed" any of it, anyway, but who have what anounts to Stockholm Syndrome about their former denominational "identity". It's pseudo-religion for pseudointellectuals. Hipster play-acting at its most contemptible. Grow up. I have more respect for fundies, because at least their various "practices" are somewhat rooted in their beliefs (ie: truth-claims about the nature of reality.) Uuism essentially makes no substantive truth-claims, and treats the trappings of religion (clergy, churchhthe buildings, regularizedas ends in themselves. Absent "beliefs" (which you describe as 'dogma' in the pejorative sense of the term), the "practices" become simultaneously hollow and purposeless. There's no reason to leave cookies out for Santa if Santa isn't real. Ibm right - deal with it.
