I'm not a fan of any of the new Star Trek shows, they don't feel like Trek to me. It's so tiring watching the copium around SNW. It's shít and lacks the depth of character TNG and DS9 has. Like DIS, they are all space babies. I would love to see a modern day DS9. But I'm afraid it will just end up being a load of liberals crying and hugging each other. What made DS9 so absolutely brilliant was the dark characters such as Garek and Dukat. The raw hatred the Cardassians and Bajorans had for each other was put across so well. I could go on all day about why that show was so good. Just pure brilliance, no effects required. I think the reason why it's not possible to create a decent Trek is because society has changed so much since the 90s. People are more interested in how Tilly handles her mental health vs a complex deep dive into the mind of a Cardassian Gul. Getting your entertainment from 30 second tiktok videos will do that to a society. It dumbs down a society to the point where they are only capable of producing surface level entertainment. I'll play devils advocate and say Abrams movies are entertaining, annoying stories but I still get a buzz out of some of the action scenes. I'm one of those weird Trekkies that thinks the movies should be action, and the TV shows cerebral. But again, this is why DS9 is so brilliant, a station that doesn't move forces them to come up with more character based stories. You can't have rubbish acting on a space station as it would be the most boring Star Trek ever. Yet, in my book, DS9 is a master piece.

My issue with modern Trek is the aesthetics. The whole neon vibe is basically 80s blade runner with better graphics. It's dystopian and horrible. Why does TNG feel good? Because it's designed like a cruise liner, with natural hues and soft edges. You might think this doesn't matter, but it's all subconscious and absolutely does. Humans are at their most comfortable around nature, and architects design living spaces to emulate and offer that comfort. It's unrealistic to assume star ships are going to be these sterile environments depicted in new Trek. It's more likely they would be far more natural, with living walls and plant life integrated with technology, because that's what people would want. I know I'm going off on a tangent, but this really is my issue here. Modern design sucks because we are basically using 80s neon. Todays sci fi is going to look incredibly dated in 20 years time, whereas 90s Trek will continue to be timeless, because they got the design right.

Something that undercuts the entire premise of this movie is that if you're a civilization with transporter technology you're essentially immortal and with planning you can be young forever.. All you have to do is keep your transporter pattern as you were when you were 25 years old and then, once at 80 or 90 years old, you're ready to be young again, just go through the transporter and have yourself put back together using the "25-year-old-me' pattern for your body but keeping your 80 year old brain and personality. Immortality.

I think liberals are getting off of Twitter because it's being taken over by Trump supporters and also those who just lie and just full of propaganda. Twitter probably overreacted and tried to regulate some of this stuff, but they didn't want to be a mouthpiece for Russian propaganda. So what are you going to do? It seems to me that if you're anyone - even a celebrity - you have a duty to tell the truth. Especially so since the alternative is horrific. You know millions are going to lose health insurance when they get rid of the ACA. Kids and families will be uprooted when they do deportations. And the cuts to social security will be pretty dramatic for elderly people. It's difficult to know exactly what they will do and what they won't do but the tariffs could be catastrophic to the country.

DS9 is my favourite series, and I've been a Trek lifer since '87. I've seen every series, live action and Animated, and movie's. THIS episode is my top 5 greatest stories of Trek. Tony Todd should have received an Oscar, little lone Emmy. I know Oscar's are just for movies, just saying. RIP Tony, and thank you from the bottom of my heart! 🤘😎🖖🇨🇦...Q'aPla!!

You had a great story with your father. I am happy for you. Unfortunately, he died too soon. Unfortunately, my father and I didn't have a good story. The fact that he turned 80 and then found out about his death 6 months later wasn't so great. I love Star Trek till 2005... Thank you for your Story. RIP Tony Todd

I'd take advice from Captain Jean-Luc Picard, I won't take advice from Patrick Stewart. Picard was a well read, diplomatic, career military man who experienced a lot. P-Stew just remembers words and then recites them in a convincing way. They aren't experts on policy, they're circus monkeys. Anything they say is their own personal opinion, actors and singers are not the arbiters of truth or morality. "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" Isaac Asimov As Xell said, if people are going to Taylor Swift or Hwill Hweaton for political guidance, those people probably shouldn't be allowed to vote. For democracy to truly work, we need an educated society with the ability to think critically and always seek the truth. Peace & Long Life 🖖

I'm in my early 30s, i'd say classic startrek granted me alot of insights and appreciations towards things like family, that my friends of the same age might not understand. I would even say many episode like this, and from the top of my head "the Drumhead" from TNG influenced me so much that I will be a different person without startrek. Amazing episode... Amazing review.

This is the way to communicate concepts and ideas: make them specific to the characters rather than to specific, real-world events; then anyone can identify with as few or many aspects of the story as apply to their thoughts or experiences. The performances are outstanding. A great one to connect with a loved one over. 🙏For you and the bittersweet flood of memories.

Excellent recap & review. Someone was definitely cutting onions in the room. The book dedication at the end gets me every time. As another guy who also lost his father too soon, I can totally relate to how you feel. Sadly my father wasn't into science fiction and I think it would have been great to have watched this episode with him. Cherish those memories, mate.

Studios unfortunately took the lesson: make each Trek movie an action-adventure, don't complicate matters with thoughtful stories and scientific plausibility.

A petty nitpick: even though "Born to be Wild" is one of cinema's most overplayed songs, if one chooses to delay a launch to have the right Steppenwolf traveling music for a spacelaunch (atop a reconfiguered ICBM, no less), how is it not the one featuring the lyrics "I like smoke and lightening; heavy metal thunder; racing with the wind and the feeling that I'm under" and "Fire all of your guns at once and explode into space"?

I get my own supper. I don't perform, I orate my thoughts. You hate Nu Trek for real cannon reasons? well that's good, I have a range of other videos explaining my thoughts on Nu Trek and why I don't like it. That's part of the reason why I say check out the rest of the channel. I also have videos explaining why I kind of like star trek prodigy. Its fine to come in and say your bit, but I would probably not just take 1 video that someone made and make assumptions. There's literally 100's of hours of mine and others opinions on my channel. I think you might find them interesting. Maybe you won't. Thanks for the comment.

I gave SNW 2 seasons to prove itself, but these teasers for season 3 continues to just tone from freaky friday comedy to dark violent action. And starfleet academy apparently has Tatiana Maslany joining the cast. To bad it's DOA in my opinion.

CGI destroyed Star Trek. It is cheaper to have a confusing but noisy "space battle" than a thoughtful discussion between protagonists with equally imperative viewpoints. Why search for a peaceful resolution to a conflict when you can settle it with "pew-pew!?" Thank you for your brutal but accurate critique.

This is the correct answer. I love action in Star Trek movies, that's what the big screen is for. However, pew pew lasers in a TV show is just stupid, and not Star Trek.

I can't stand The Orville. I'll just watch the original series or the original animated series when I need classic Trek. Maybe I'll watch some of the spinoff, but the original is my fave.
