Hi Mark is kerf been adjusted for? Do you pre spray the wood before assembling?
@BigBlueLaserDesignsСағат бұрын
Hi! No, you would adjust for kerf if you want to. We always include the original slot size in our listings. We paint after cutting and before assembly.

This has helped me immensely today! Thank you so much for this. I am new to using a laser and was not quite understanding what settings I needed to change to get the exact effect I am looking for. I totally appreciate that you put it in text along with describing it. Sometimes I need a visual like that for it to sink in!

I cannot get that belt back on! I've tried numerous times. It seems I'll need to unloosen the wheel. Maybe the belt is too tight to do it your way? UPDATE: I ended up placing my thumb below the belt and pushed the belt UP with my thumb as I slid the gantry towards the corner. It popped on! YAY!

Is there a formula or rule of thumb of how to size your base in relation to size of what's going on the base?
@BigBlueLaserDesignsАй бұрын
I never have used one myself. I just make the size that makes sense to me.

Great video. Just wish you would have used a lighter wood or changed line color so we could see better.

Thanks! The video was made for one person who asked about this, so I decided to share it with everyone. Normally I’d have spent more time on the production side, but since it was initially just for them, I didn’t do that.
@chadtuggle9814Ай бұрын
Exactly what I came to say
@BigBlueLaserDesignsАй бұрын
I made it for a specific person with no intention to share it with everyone, so production wasn’t important.

Thanks for sharing, I understand the concept, and it's great. I'm just stuck on finding how to use this regarding the material. Would I create a rectangle shape and add it to the part I want to cut to get the exact size as the slot sizer? What I'm trying to do is be able to stretch bigger or make the file smaller (aka SVG file), since lot of premade designs are already made with the area of cut and all that.

I have an XTool S1 laser. I want to do the letter projects, but how am I going to deal with the acrylic using a diode laser?
@BigBlueLaserDesigns2 ай бұрын
The best approach we’ve seen is to connect with someone in your area with a CO2 laser who can cut the acrylic for you. There are user groups all over the US, so there’s probably one near you.

Newbie here again. Any idea how to convert mm/m to mm/s regarding speed? (I'm assuming that's millimeter per minute v. millimeter per second.)
@BigBlueLaserDesigns2 ай бұрын
Each software should have that option built in. What are you using?
@stephaniespivey89512 ай бұрын
xTool Creative Space. I just found the answer: I divide the mm/m by 60 to convert to mm/s!

Thanks for the creativity Mark. I have a question though. I’m trying to do an engrave on the word “DAD”. I want to use a thick font, and only engrave the stroke - leaving it hollow. When I go to engrave, it’s automatic fills in causing a long engrave time. Would you know how to keep this from happening? Thanks
@BigBlueLaserDesigns3 ай бұрын
Yup! Depending on the program you’re using it’s called different things. In illustrator you need to convert the stroke to a shape or path. Once you do that you can engrave just that.
@owatagi3 ай бұрын
Thanks. I’ll give it a try.

can you do the files so they can be 3d printed?

I love these. I needed something like this, but I don’t have a laser cutter. I just traced the pattern on the material and used my scroll saw to cut them out. Not perfect but they will work. Not sure if I should paint them or seal them.
@BigBlueLaserDesigns3 ай бұрын
You could always get someone in the laser community to cut and mail you some. I’d happily do that just for the cost of postage. Since these are meant to get messy, no need to finish them. They just get thrown away.

@BigBlueLaserDesigns3 ай бұрын
I assume you loosened it to get the belt off? Once you get it tightened again, I don’t recommend loosening it. Here are the instructions Glowforge provides for tightening it. support.glowforge.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054011474-Adjust-the-Carriage-Plate-Belt-Tension

@@BigBlueLaserDesigns yep, sure is fun to play with. Check out my latest video if you like. I've only just started a channel. One of the Man Cave signs i made recently was actually a file I purchased from you a while back. I used a stain on pine for that one then routed through it. I'll make a video of it one day then provide a link back to your vector file. Worked really well. Thanks for providing such great content.
