Do you know where this might have been filmed? Because my newest video is about the old A.C.L Edmonton Shops in Rocky Mount, NC plus Thats what it looks like in the background, Also that’s where i live and railfan.
@joeman14376 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's not Rocky Mount, but Tampa. However I do know that one of the smallest locomotives the ACL ever owned ran at Rock Mount shops, #1435, a 0-4-0 saddle tank.

This is nice! I'm more of a Southern Railway fanatic, but the ACL is not too far behind in my book. Shame more weren't preserved though, but hey, at least I had to chance to see both of the preserved K-class Ten Wheelers which are preserved in my home state, so that's better than nothing.

Heh, well, you're in luck. I got footage of SOU steam. Watch the "Old Steam Locos of the South" video I uploaded as well. It's near the end. Credit to JMJ Productions for making it long ago.

Wonder how the engineer felt knowing he would be running a diesel soon. I read somewhere that many Southern engineers decided to retire rather than switch because they felt little children wouldn’t think of them with the same awe.
@kpkndusa6 ай бұрын
I asked a number of engineers from the steam to diesel era what they liked better, steam or diesel, they all said they didn't miss the steam engines, I also got the same answer from engineers when I was stationed in Germany in the late 70's.

@@kpkndusa I imagine those who didn’t retire quickly realized how much easier their job was and to heck with the kids.

Thank you for uploading this. Any ACL steam footage is currently rare from what I can tell. I was fortunate to find even one clip of a 1500 pacific stopping at my hometown depot on what appeared to be a local. The local library had a reel of footage from the town on life there in 1947 which it put out on VHS, and later posted on KZbin.

Hey no trouble, happy to help! Could you link me those videos you mentioned? I'd love to take a look!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZSbfoaPaqmpmacsi=XaPg0QdQeleSw9z8 it's just in the opening clip. P5a no.1517 pulling in with short passenger train in Cairo Georgia. The rest of the video is about life in the town in 1947.

Most of the L&N footage is Evansville, IN, not really the south, but still great to see.

Really great!!!--- I always admired the tremendous southern hospitality I would see on the side of their box cars stating--" THANKS FOR USING COAST LINE'-- no other railroad expressed such gratitude, with an appreciation like that, I would do business with them anytime, sadly there gone

@joeman143711 ай бұрын
To quote directly from Mr. Farcus "Regarding your request, feel free to use it in any way you see fit, other than selling it." I understand the stigma, but I assure you I have no ill will towards JMJ Productions or am seeking to gain anything from this. As stated, it's just for educational purposes.

In this use it is referred to as a shoving platform. Where ever this is going there is no facility to run an engine around so the engine is shoving. A crew member rides the cab and blows the peanut whistle at crossings and directs the engine crew. I've seen it done on mine runs.

The Atlantic coast line was my favorite railroad when it existed, as a kid, therr boxcars always got my attention, with there southern hospitality slogan, in big, bold letters,---""THANKS FOR USING COAST LINE""

The only engines that I was able to identify by numbers are as follows: 1. ACL 4-6-2 #1664 2. ACL 4-6-2 #1677 3. ACL 4-6-0 #230 4. ACL 4-6-2 #426 What a rare find!
@ash-man60310 ай бұрын
And from what I found out, 1664 and 1677 are P-5-B's, which were I believe to be a similar design to the earlier P-5-A's, including sole survivor number 1504.
