How do I sell my street photography on stock agencies or my own website when I don’t have model release? I am not a photo journalist and don’t have permission from anybody to post or sell these pictures.
@SeanGallagherPhotographer2 күн бұрын
Hi Judy. In general, stock agencies do not require model releases for images licensed in an editorial context e.g. for use in magazines, newspapers etc. to illustrate news, or a social topic, travel story etc. You need model releases if your images will be used in a commercial context though e.g. for advertisements. Always best to check with the agency and double check liability issues with them.

Mr Gallagher... 'Golden Hour' - you've travelled a bit; would you say that GH is best understood as being a period that varies in duration dependent on Latitude?
@SeanGallagherPhotographer7 күн бұрын
Yes, your latitude will certainly determine the time you have to play with in terms of the golden hour. Always adapt your shooting schedule depending on your geographical location.

People with non-artistic perceptions of photographs don't see it this way. A non-photgrapher's mind just sees a square with whatever just happened to be in it.

Doesn't the center focus rule break the rule of thirds one?? If it does then, doesn't it effect because the rule of thirds is the most basic one?Shouldn't I consider rule of thirds first than center focus?
@SeanGallagherPhotographer17 күн бұрын
Don't get too hung up on thinking about these as 'rules' but more as guidelines. Sometimes one will work better for a scene, sometimes another will be best. It is not a formula. As I mentioned in the video, take each technique one at a time to practice. Over time you will become more confident with each and even start experimenting by combining them. Good luck!

@SeanGallagherPhotographer17 күн бұрын
Astrophotography will certainly require specialist equipment to get the best images, but when you take the picture you are still think about using light, colour, the composition and perhaps moments.

Here's something weird (and possibly inadvertent) Sean... i've extracted something quite significant (for me) from a scene in your intro. I've taught myself to shoot, although not exclusively, with both eyes open. A little tricky at first - shifting the emphasis from the visual field of one to the other, but it has got progressively smoother. So thank you - there are times when it really makes a difference. Cheers.
@SeanGallagherPhotographer20 күн бұрын
Yes, sometimes it helps to have both eyes open to take in the general scene first and then when you've picked your moment you can focus in with one eye.

I have had discussions with people both photographers and non photographers who consider street photography to be unethical due to lack of consent of the subjects in the shot. when i look at steet photography and watch videos about it such as this, i have a hard time agreeing with them...photojournalism is important. Its beautiful. its not creepy...if you do it right. what are your thoughts on people who say it is?
@SeanGallagherPhotographer7 күн бұрын
I understand both sides of the argument but of course, as a photographer, I feel we should retain the right to be able to photograph in public spaces. Always educate yourself about local laws, customs and practices if you're photographing in a new place to help avoid any conflict or problems.

I'm obsessed with gear, tbh. But I'm an analogue shooter to almost 100%. (Pentax K1000, KM, KX, K2, LX, MX and 2 MEs for 35mm & Pentacon six TL for 6x6). The fact that there is no way of post-processing for me makes me think about composition, focus and exposure intensively before I give it a go. But that's exactly what I love about it...
@SeanGallagherPhotographer23 күн бұрын
Yes, shooting analogue is a great way to cut out the "noise" and just focus in on making the best images possible 👍 At the beginning of my career I taught myself how to print black and white images in my own darkroom I built. The things I learnt during that time still serve me today. Good luck with your shooting.
