Naseer Turabi wrote 'Woh Humsafar Tha' about what is Bangladesh today. When he got news of the fall of Dhaka on 16th December 1971, Turabi was in his office and began uncontrollably crying. He then wrote this ghazal, expressing his sentiments about the situation.

ye aik ghasal hai jou aik shair ne likhi thi during the east west pakistan debacle. It the grief that comes from the depth of a persons heart at the all the waste of life and the judai with an entire subset of people who you might never see again. This song personally makes me think of 1947 and how so many people lost their lives in their homes and on the trains. In my opinion the Independence of Pakistan and India are truly one of the saddest points in time for our respective countries. So many people died for nothing. So much hate from and towards a people who were so similar and still different. Could we have lived as one country? Could we have prospered then? We shall never know. We can only hope that time will heal our division and we will once again see that we are different but not that different. I hope we will come to love each others as Neighbours , as brothers and sisters. As the collect people of the subcontinent or rather as the People of Hindustan from the river Sindhu to the indian sea.
