I am obsessed with visibility on the bike. And I award you, my friend, with my very first award for notable achievement in the field. Alas, I am awarding you a grade of "F," with honorable mention for courage and survival>. <grin> Dark bike, totally dark clothing, no light! It was my experience both on the bike and as a motorist reflecting on the visibility of cyclists that led me to my personal rules for visibility. To me, my most important observation has been that there is no perfect solution since visibility depends on the varying lighting conditions on the road. I refer particularly to the dramatic changes we ride through from brilliant sunlight and then, suddenly, through deep shadows (or tunnels). My first rule is that flat white is the best look for all conditions. I had a super premium red helmet ($$$) that I discarded in favor of flat white. Dark, shiny helmets completely wash out in bright sunlight. I try, also, to favor white for my jersey although I almost always wear a small, light, white backpack with a few incidentals so that I am not absolutely bound to white jerseys and jackets. And I always ride with a very powerful, two "bulb" strobe light on the back of my helmet that alternates white and red from slightly different source positions and is so bright that it cannot be missed even in bright sun. (Cygolite Hypershot 350 - Amazon) I admit that I have had some second thoughts about the fact that this could actually be an annoying distraction to some drivers and might even be illegal in some places. When I first put this thing on my helmet, I was amazed at the reactions of drivers who consistently honor my presence with extra space. And I have had no negative reactions that I could notice. In fact, I have encountered a couple of drivers who had passed me on the road and later commented approvingly on how visible I was. (My white headlight also has a strobe mode, which is also a nice touch, although I confess that I have rarely used it in that way.) Great tour of the lake though and thanks for that! Just call me "grandpa," which I am!

Any recommendations on the best time to start that ride, in September?
@MelOnWheels Жыл бұрын
Fall may be your best bet because it's off season, so less traffic. But I would probably chat with a local bike shop for the best advice on timing. Tour de Tahoe is on Sept. 10, which is something I plan to do one day.

When i was a teen(1990), i would ignore the bands everyone like just out of some silly reaction. I hated the fact that even people who didn't listen to metal in general, were dancing to Sabbath etc. So for many years i was focused in thrash, brutal death and the then upcoming fresh sound of nordic metal. Doom death, black, all that stuff. After some years i started going back in time, listening to all the classics. And Dio's voice was def one of my greatest discoveries. Every person has its own views, and everything is subjective and that is healthy, as a world where everyone liked the same things would definitely suck! But i never understood how can a person state that Sabbath with Ozzy were better. For me, listening to Sabbath from their first LP and in chronological order, makes me hear and feel a band evolving. Evolving towards something better. And no, i am not talking just about the vocals. Everything is better. And more balanced. And i won't even compare the interviews. DIO speaks wisdom and kindness. Ozzy was fixed on good times and being a caricature. Which is totally fine, but honestly, after 40 years it becomes somewhat irrelevant and boring. But DIO speaks about everything with passion and in detail. Thank you SIR. Thank you DIO.

Back In The Early 80’s I Was Really Getting Heavily Into Metal But Had Never Went To A Show Yet. My Buddy Said He Was Going To Get Tickets To Dio’s Last In Line Show And Asked Me If I Wanted To Go, Of Course I Said YES!!! The Next Day I Asked Him If He Got The Tickets, He Smiled And Said…We’re OFF TO THE WITCH…I Was Completely Stoked…I Remember Rough Cutt Opened For Him And I Thought They Were Great…But When Ronnie Hit The Stage It Was Magic…He Busted Out His Laser Whip, Vivian Had The Magic Guitar, Played All The Classic’s…Nevertheless My Very First Concert Was The Very BEST…Never To Be Outdone…Comparably To Having Your Virginity Taken By A Porn Star…God Bless Ronnie James Dio, THE KING OF ROCK N ROLL!!!🤘🏼
