Dear Captain Lexi, just be safe, and update us here and there so that we know you're ok. When one door closes in life, another one opens. We love you!!

I'm really sorry. You did an exceptional job in keeping your crew (and you) alive and kudos for that. I'll be processing what you went through for quite a while so it was a great learning experience for me, but at such a great cost. Hugs and best wishes. Phil.

We heard you got remasted. But your video of the experience is heartbreaking. So sorry. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do next. Just curious did your mast puncture the hull while onboard and did you finally get the whole mast free of the boat? How did your large crimpers handle the cable? Stay safe and keep positive. You are stronger in the end for the experience you had. Btw you handled it very well imo, you and your crew are alive and that is all that matters. RIP WildChild.

Thank you so much! It was a horrible unexpected end to the adventure... but the ocean is always dangerous... I accept it. Hugs from far away... I follow you guys too and I am so happy for you... Solid rod rigging.. cable cutters would not cut it... had to use grinder and knife... yes hull was very damaged... cracked and torn... bad scene... more damage than video showed...

OMG I learned so much from you! :( Really sorry for the boat and all personal things on it :(
@janblok17832 жыл бұрын
Wow... Stupid question from an armchair sailor, but if you succesfuly chopped of that mast (which I still find a majestic feat in those conditions), your hull is not breached and your motor is still functioning (was it?), why not motor to safety? You even mentioned briefly in the video being a motor boat. In which case you would still have a home and a I guess a mast is easier to crowdfund than a complete ship.
@WildCaptainLexi2 жыл бұрын
The damage was worse than it looked, the ship did sink the next day... and see the blog for the other reasoning behind not trying to save the damaged hull. The decisions are not as simple as they seem, but valid question.

I remember being onboard wild child many times... Swimming off the back of the boat, working on her during the winters, piloting her for the first leg of the adventure, down the canal. She was a good boat, and I feel devastated by your loss. Sending love from home. - Kotabear

Sorry you lost your home but join in celebrating your safe return. As you recover and develop your blog entry please share your thoughts at the time on salvage, motoring in, and other damage to the hull that might have limited your options. Whether to insure, and whether insurance was available (at any cost) will be of interest to many with older boats. I wish you well in finding your land legs and the next wild chapter.

God bless the US Coast Guard! When you're in trouble, there is nothing better than seeing the Coast Guard coming to help you. Been there.
@WildCaptainLexi2 жыл бұрын
yeah... most places in the Caribbean have no coast guard to help or rescue you... I was actually very grateful when I sailed under the umbrella of protection of the US coast guard... I felt safer... but never expected to need them.

As a boater myself, I can relate to all of your concerns about weather, safety, breakdown, repairs, etc. Ive experienced everything but the events up to and including your mayday. You're my hero for navigating through it, no pun intended, and surviving. Good luck getting your feedback on the ground. I've seen you deal with adversity, and I know you'll get through it.

I'm very sorry for your loss. As devastating as this is, Wild Child did not let you down. She stayed afloat long enough for you to be rescued ... So in a sense, she saved your life ‼️ I Hope All works out for you, and I'm glad you're safe ‼️

yeah.. she did take the beating and keep her captain and crew safe.. so she gets credit for that...

Sent a little your way. You caught my attention while in Grenada. I went back and caught up & then followed you each week. Please update us on your land life. I can’t wait to find out how you turn this around. Tragic End to a lovely vessel & true sailing channel.

So sorry for your loss. It's too bad you couldn't blow that preventer and give Wild Child a better chance to stand up.
@WildCaptainLexi2 жыл бұрын
you know... I will think about this for the rest of my life... what if the main was not prevented... or I used a much thinner weaker rope with a much lower breaking strength? would that have made a difference? Would she have just hard gybed but survived? Tornadoes lightening and hurricanes are tricky though... powerful forces we are mostly at the mercy of...
