the way you describe your habit of getting bored and starting new books sounds a lot like the experience of people with adhd

Damaging new books is the worst. I remember once I was bringing some new books into the house, and I accidentally dropped one on a cactus-pierced the back cover! I felt so bad afterward.

Hot tip: check the garbage bin after the sale. Sometimes books that aren't taken are just pitched in the trash. Rescue those poor books! ❤

Thankfully, my second library's book sale happens bi-weekly and even has a whole room dedicated to it, so luckily the books aren’t thrown away there. But I’ll definitely keep an eye out - especially with the first library being demolished. Hopefully, they don’t toss the books, but I really appreciate the tip! I’ll stay on the lookout just in case.

yes it's hella worth it. you can study all kinds of stuff while on the go listening to it. taking pictures of documents still works well but it is slightly more buggy than downloading pdfs and webpages. that's what i do i download webpages as pdfs and pdfs. i am studying law, business, economics, tech, automotive repair, autobody, and much much much more with this, greatly enhanced my life.

FYI, Carnegie built several libraries around the country, and here in Philly there are at least two that I know of. An interesting historical fiction is "The Personal Librarian" Great collection of books. Keep up the search.

City I grew up in has Library Sale every 3 months. Sale runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Ill go on Saturday and Fill a bag for 5 dollars. If you just get paperbacks.. can get a good 40 in the bag for 5 dollars. I saw people bring in Costco bags that are 3 times the size of a Brown paper bag and get bigger books(Art books) Organizers do not mind. But I filled 3 bags and gave them 20 dollars. Feels like your Stealing books. 😂😂
@logicwithjuliaАй бұрын
That’s such a great deal-40 paperbacks for just $5! My library sale is a bit pricier, with paperbacks ranging from 25 cents to $2. But it’s always full of great finds. Lately, though, I’ve noticed a lot of resellers at my library sale who buy up tons of books to sell online. They come in with wagons right when the sale opens, and by the time I get there, most of the good books are gone. The only upside is they don’t tend to pick up the ones I’m after. It’s frustrating because they take so many books, leaving less for everyone else. One time I bought a book with pages missing, but it was only $1, so I didn’t think much of it. What surprised me was how resellers even try to haggle prices down and return damaged books. I’m sure not all resellers are like this, but the ones at my sale are pretty pushy. It’s a bit of a balancing act-resellers help with library revenue, but they also make it harder for regular readers to find books. Still, I enjoy the hunt and the thrill of finding books, even if it’s a bit more competitive now.

@logicwithjulia I go the very last day of Sale. 1 bag filled is 5 dollars. Lifetime membership is 250 dollars but members get in the 1st day. Paperbacks are 1.00 and Hardbound are 2.00 on day one. The 2nd day I think half off. Then 3rd day is 5 dollars to fill a bag. I found a lot of history books, Art, foreign language and then at least 3,000 to 4,000 paperbacks on the Last day. If not more.... but I collect the older Forgotten realms and some True crime paperbacks. I found some Nevil Shute paperbacks.... his writing is really good but a bit more slow reading his books. A lot of detail to the story.
@michaelrichards669Ай бұрын
@logicwithjulia Im guessing... Resellers go on the 1st day here. Place is probable packed. On the last day place was packed with enough people. lol

Right! This woman kept China in the dark: she thought trains were evil, and she couldn’t even read, let alone understand what was needed to do to modernize China. What else did she accomplish? Nothing, she used the money that was meant for the construction of a navy to build the summer palace. This is yet another attempt at fabricating Chinese history. 😂
@logicwithjulia2 ай бұрын
Cixi has often been seen as a controversial figure in history. In fact, most historical figures are complex, and it can often be challenging to distinguish whether their accomplishments are ultimately worthwhile. This video is just a brief 5-minute review of Jung Chang's book on Empress Dowager Cixi, which explores her multifaceted role in China’s history. While the video highlights key aspects of her reign, there’s much more to discuss, including valid criticisms like the controversies surrounding the Summer Palace and how resources were allocated like you mentioned. However, Jung Chang attributes Cixi as as a stabilizing force for China and that she was an advocate for modernization during a tumultuous period. Nevertheless, history is nuanced, and it's valuable to consider multiple perspectives. In the future, I would like to make a more in-depth video that discusses the pros and cons of her reign.

Great review! The app is about $120 a year now. I was able to talk to customer service and it's about $30 a month now to use. It's very expensive but I haven't had any issues with it yet. I downloaded a long book that was about 120 pages long. And it's working just fine it was a PDF. I'm going to try to do the $30 a month but that's just expensive 😡😡. I wish they would drop the price for the app that just seems a little too greedy.

I am still using this app a year later since I haven't found a good alternative. I had hoped that over time the app would undergo updates and inevitably improve its many flaws. I'm sad to say that, in fact, I've noticed more flaws recently, especially with the voices-they sound less human and more robotic now. I noticed this just yesterday when I was using the app to read me a book. I feel that their pricing is inconsistent and definitely way too high considering the quality of the service. I pay $69.99 a year, which I got during a promotion, and I am still paying that amount annually. If you are interested in having a premium subscription with Speechify, I recommend keeping an eye out for special discounts. I have linked a discount in my description if you are interested. Nevertheless, even with a discount, the price is still too much. I'm hoping to make an updated video on the whole Speechify experience soon.
