As a tourist , i personally wouldnt want to take a ride from any taxi, the greed and risk are to much. What these drivers dont understand is tourist are tired of getting screwed over and prefer a large company that has more control of pricing and ur safety. If the drivers actually hear what most tourist say about it , they would understand but i think most of these drivers think of tourist as suckers. They know that we are in a foreign country so they take advantage of us. Maybe if they didnt have so much greed in they heart they would change their ways. I spent 1 week in Jamaica 3 years ago and said i would never go back because of the greed i experienced. Everyone demands a tip , everyone harrasses u everywhere u go. Its a turn off. A tourist will tip good and often when they receive good service and feel safe. When u are harassed non stop it makes us not even want to deal with them. People are not stupid , we can tell who is genuine and who is scamming. Why do u think most people stay at all inclusive resorts and dont even bother leaving. Its because they dont feel safe amd dont want to deal with the locals. Which is hurting the locals because they dont make as much money.

You cannot compare prices in Jamaica vs America, the economy is different. It has nothing to do with corruption. Another note, you must understand that there is a difference between private taxi/travel guide/Personal Driver vs big companies that offer shuttle services; the rates varies. 90% of the big companies are not locally owned, they are overseas investors, this companies bring a bulk load of tourist to Jamaica and as a result the big companies can offer transportation at a very low rate , shuttle will always be cheaper vs local individual entrepreneurs who offer a personal / private chauffeur. Coming to Jamaica, please interview intelligent people who are business oriented. What business can operate without overheads ? Local people are crab in barrel, unorganized, failed to unite. They play themselves out of the system, that is why big companies are taking over. There is no protection because people fail to unite. The alleged corruption is among the local drivers. Big companies are taking over because locals fail to make a united effort to stop up, upgrade , become more business oriented. Tourism is growing and the local people are not growing with it, there are so many things to take advantage of like: social media, viator and trip advisor; so many people are advancing themselves to capitalize in tourism, why should people look to the government? People want hand out, want their hands be held, people need to advance themselves. There are entrepreneurs in tourism capitalizing in tourism be moving with the times, advancing themselves. Jamaica is apart of a free market.

Been hearing about this going on the after this I can understand that this runs deep and its sickening to know how cut throat this aspect of the industry is. This drivers in this sector has been pitted against each from a long time ago and I can't help but wonder if a part of the idea of paying for a park came from the competitiveness of the drivers themselves to get ahead of the other? Hear me out for a second. I know for a fact that drivers use to pay hotel staff tips or percentages of trips they give them as an incentive to get a call ahead of another driver so it has been this level of corruption in the business. So I take it that the whole system needs reform and I think a lot of these needs to be implemented into the contracts of these investors as well from the get go. I know there will still be corruption but we can control so much.

Of course this topic is focusing on recent Indian arrivals to Jamaica, at the same time what is really sad is emigration & the departure of hundred of thousands of Jamaicans amongst those the (indentured) generations of Indian Jamaicans to foreign shores. If you time travelled back 40, 60, 80, 100, 150 + yrs there were far more Indian Jamaicans living in J.A. especially in parishes such as Westmoreland, Clarendon, St. Mary etc. Indians were mixing with other races & the demographic landscape of J.A. was changing visually...No disrespect with my next comment had no Indians, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Europeans etc set foot in Jamaica, J.A. would have been a country/Island similar to Haiti...

The loose use of the term "Indian' needs to be addressed. West India and American-India existed before today's India, which is originally Bharat or Hindustan. Jamaican and other West Indian/ Caribbean populations still carry West Indian American-Indian bloodlines. Why are immigrants and their descendants allowed to call themselves by names that belong originally to a population that is trained not to call itself by those names? What is the reason for the name switching and changes over the centuries? What may have been buried or hidden under all of this identity and name manipulation? There is a problem here.
@musicacrossages847121 күн бұрын
The term "Indian" was co-opted and causes confusion. Historically, and in present day, the use of this identity needs correction. The country we call "India" today is really Bharat or Hindustan and descendants claiming ancestry from that land should be called by that land's true name. The original and true Indian is the West Indian and American-Indian whose history is still surpressed by many nations and groups that benefit at the expense of American-Indians and the exploitation of their peoples, lands and resources, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Much of our histories and identities are concocted lies, especially since the 18th century. In this current age, such lies and concoctions will be increasingly exposed and less tolerated. Accuracy, historically and scientifically, has been sacrificed by national and corporate interests that encourage divide-and-rule, supremacy and inferiority programming for targeted groups, and religious, ethnic and gender enmity and rivalries for the benefit of a select few. Jamaica is first the land of the West Indian and American-Indian whose descendants are alive and well in the population but do not conform to the image programming for what an "Indian" should look like. These West Indian American-Indian Jamaicans are being told today that they are all Africans only, in ancestral identity, and former slaves, which is not true and will be one of the lies to fall to pieces in this age. Jamaicans are programmed to look up to immigrant others that have replaced them through land, economy and identity acquisition or theft instead of questioning the historical accuracy of identity names, the origins of West India or American-India, the re-naming and relocating of lands and peoples and how their names and locations have been changed, hidden or manipulated. The masses of Jamaicans are encouraged to look at themselves as beneath these groups, lacking in their own aboriginal ancestries in their own land and region. This is a great conspiracy upheld by major nations, family dynasties and ancient treaties and serves immigrant agendas while shrinking the identities and economies of the West Indian American-Indian descendants of the entire American continents and islands. The people of Bharat/ Hindustani ancestry have settled and integrated into Jamaican populations and do great business here. Some have helped through charitable service to quietly contribute to underserved communities in Jamaica and to preserve awareness of ancient healing practices such as Ayur Veda, yoga and meditation etc, many of which have older roots than Bharat/ Hindustan. However, if we are being truthful, many Bharat/ Hindustan immigrants to Jamaica (and their descendants) have racist, colorist, classist, religious and other types of supremacy attitudes toward the original West Indian American-Indian descendants of Jamaica. They are here for the status, money and lifestyle that Jamaica provides for its immigrant populations, some of which assimilate and become Jamaican citizens, but many do not really think highly of, like or respect the masses of Jamaican people. Racism, ethnic and gender supremacy/ patriarchy, slavery and race, gender and religious kllings of the most cruel kinds are alive and well in Bharat/ Hindustan. Therefore similar attitudes have travelled to Jamaica with Bharat/ Hindustan peoples. They do not always treat other Bharat/ Hindustan peoples or Jamaicans well. Now THAT is the full truth. May the identities and lands of the many nations and peoples of West India and American-India be remembered, respected and restored once more.

Negotiate your organised needs and stop asking government to negotiate on your behalf! Stop being a victim when you can be your own man...

Indians do not and have never been responsible for shaping Jamaica's economy. The wealth of Jamaica was built on the sugar industry. Nothing to do with Indians. Today's wealth is based on bauxite, tourism and music.
