So I may compare with what I see, can you tell me 1) Which part of the world are you in...Which Inmarsat are you pointing to? and 2) which antenna make and model or type are you using, please. Thanks!

Location = Europe, I don't remember which Inmarsat but around the south east/sse from location . Could be gx5 or 6f2 or 4a f4. For the antenna it's a diy one. Trying to explain would be difficult, but if you want to see it, I can try to do a video .

My guess is any sdr can be used with rtl-uvd. The military planes will only have the beacon on if they want to disclose their location. They will most likely be switched off.

It looks like you need a seriously better antenna. I've made my own 10 legged ground plane Spider Antenna using nothing but 59 Coax, 220V mains electrical conduit assembled together without solder, using simple wire wrapping techniques to put it together. I fitted the spider into an upside down 1L plastic bucket to weather proof it & mounted it on a 5 meter fiberglass mast that's on my roof. It's been up and running for 2 years now that way and I pick up over 200 planes as far as away as Oxford and Paris and Hannover, all the way from The Hague. Total plane count per day is around 3000-3500 planes a day. FWIW, I run readsb & tar1090 - which is what ADSBExchange is based on, but I feed to FR24, FA and ADSBEx. Also, this is version 2 of that kind of antenna. Version 1 was a 4 legged spider using 58 Coax (less shielding) - and the performance increase from the second one was approx 20% - so even that kind of upgrade should get you huge reception benefit increases. I recently found some even better quality coax so I may do a Version 3 remake of my antenna. if so, I'll do a video of how I put it and the previous versions together. Version 1 I did in about 45 minutes. Version 2 I was more diligent about the measurements and tried to pull off more impressive wire-wrapping skills - so that took 3 hours. Yes, if I had all the connectors and flanges and soldered it all together, it would have been even better - but I wanted to see what was possible with using just scrap bits of material I had inhouse already and for Free. Hope that helps give inspiration & ideas to you.

Thanks,good to know. I've only used a small piece of wire indoors while I'm installing the software on a new computer. I have the collinear 6 stubs + two 1/2 stubs and I have a shorted dipole but I think they fall short of what you receive. My detection of planes stops just before Paris Charle de Gaulle. Amount of planes detected seems similar though.

Why rtl1090 software is not showing many planes but dump 1090 is showing many planes ? What is the reason? Say one

It depends how long I let the software run. In general rtl1090 gives me a few more planes on the map. They are also different apps and may process the info in their own way.

No harm in having both. Once you have installed rtl1090 , make a copy of the folder add the 2 files dump1090 exe and bat. and the dump1090 install is done. Rtl1090 is not supported anymore though, dump1090 I think is.

It's weather report for airplanes. There is a list of frequencies at the end of the video for different regions.

RTL1090 is an abandoned project. It is receiving 500 packets per/second in stats but nothing shows up. My RTL-SDRv4 works with everything except for this and the accompanying Flight Radar. SDR#, Dump1090 work just fine.

The rtl-sdr v4 works for me with the rtl1090v1. ,see last video I posted. Hopefully it helps.

Hello, I installed everything and works fine but it stops completely at 3:12 . And show no flight data. I also tried with dump1090 and it also show no flights at all. Much appreciated for the video.

Mine doesn't connect either. It's an 11 year old program...likely abandoned. I have a v4 dongle, it probably works on older devices

Thanks for the new video "SDR# old version where to download". I have now installed SDRshark version 1909. The previous error "Could not load SDRSharpmerged" is now fixed. Unfortunately, I now have another error: DLL not found. I suspect it is due to Framework. Which version must be installed for this? Many thanks in advance.

There is a bat file called "install-rtlsdr" in the same folder as the sdrsharp executable , did you install these .dll?

Unfortunately, it does not work with the current SDShark version 1919. I am searching unsuccessfully for version 1906.

@@strippy Thanks for the answer. No hits in the archive found. Only one website in Italy (iz3mez) has old versions, but only up to 1830. The videos on KZbin, where it works, all have versions after 1830. The airspy website unfortunately only has the latest versions.
