Having bowled this event a bunch more times since 2010, I'll add the comment that finishing the tournament on Lane 1 - where the approach is considerably slanted from left down to right -- is no small accomplishment! It's like playing with a sidehill lie -- on Lane 1, I aim about two boards left, and just try to get out of there with a decent 110-115 game and move on!

I think Wakefield is a lot stingier - that's where I normally practice, but I went back to Norwood recently in a bit of nostalgia, since I used to go there a lot when I lived in Providence (2006-2016).

Great match between Vadney and Renaud. Vadney is known for being one of the most consistent top performing Candlepin Bowlers in history.

i seem to get more than my share of that shot. one night i got twice in one frame, i got the 2 pin with the first ball then the 3 pin with the second ball and then picked off the 9 pin for a 3 box. that's when you know it won't be a good night.

Is Kristy Lipke related to Tim Lipke? He was one of my favorites from back in the day. I remember Craig Holbrook, he was also a fine Candlepin bowler back then (and still is apparently). But wow Kristy certainly held her own in the match!! Awesome!!

Watching the old channel 5 Candlepin shows with Don Gillis, he always gave the high single string and high triple scores when introducing the bowlers. Many high singles for these pros like Tom Olstza and others were 200 + scores. I believed of course, but never actually saw someone throw a 200. So seeing this gentleman toss a 211 was absolutely fantastic! Congratulations sir!!

I have worked on 10-pin machines since 1980 and have never seen ball returns for even/odd machines. Does lane 1 have its own ball return?
@Urbie4 Жыл бұрын
A lot of old candlepin houses are that way -- Lane 1 has its own return, to the left. I think it's the houses that pre-date machines, so it was easier for the pin boys to work both lanes of a pair.

Your only open if you on a mark in a box not open if the box you just throw say with a 9 in it lets say you are in eighth box you throw a strike or spare that's a open box heading to the ninth but if you had anything but a mark so one to ten that box is closed not open from what I knew
@Urbie43 жыл бұрын
Conventionally, an open frame is one that is not a mark - at least that's the t*npin terminology, and I use it the same way in candlepins. But different regions have different terms!
