It is amazing how a sprinkler that is basically a duplicate of a Rain Bird could be so badly designed and it show in the operation. It works and like I say in my own videos the spring is too tight and even with the bearing spring it struggles to operate. The amount of water that goes all around the sprinkler and in the reverse direction is amazing. Orbit made one great plastic sprinkler in Utah and it controls the water so well, even the Rain Bird P5-PJ and the 2045 are not as good. Those Rain Bird models are excellent, but that one Orbit model made in Utah is one step better. This brass Orbit model leaves a lot to be desired. Thank you for sharing the video.

I did the exact same thing to fix my pop-up rain bird. I discovered that if I placed the last three bearings and the white plastic nut on a long screwdriver and put the end of the screwdriver into the bottom of the unit while it was horizontal, then tipped it upside down, all the parts went right where they needed to be and I didn’t have to fuss with dropping each part in one at a time. Much easier. This replacement is soooo much less expensive than buying a whole pop-up unit!

It is true this is an excellent sprinkler, and the ones I have are made in the USA. The quality is outstanding and they put the water out in front like they were designed to do. An excellent choice in sprinklers. These are still available at Menards.

That sprinkler does move quite quickly. I have several of these and will use them for experimenting. My space is a quarter like yours, so it is hard to get an image of a half circle movement. I want to add weight to the tail end in hopes to slow it down even slightly. One thing for sure it is not likely anyone will out run these sprinklers. They do not have the distance partly because of the speed of operation. I have not run mine in quite some time. The melnor look alike model is very much the same.

I like the PJ design of the Beta II model. I had early on the spoon arm version and later the PJ model. I have them both now. I have several more of the PJ model now. It was an excellent design as it worked so well and smoothly and had a very steady pace. They definitely are not fast, but then they do not need to be. I never had one in a canister. Thank you for sharing it.

That would bring it to a distance of 40'. The packaging claimed a distance of 80' which is not true. It was an error on their end.

It is interesting how this is similar to the Rain Bird Maxi-Paw, but I do see differences, like the reverse/trip mechanism which is more like a standard rear end trip setup. The arm is different in the weight placement design. It may not move as quickly as a Rain Bird, but moves very well regardless. Thank you for sharing it.

Similar concept but not quite the same head. I think these take a different wrench to get the internals out. Wrenches for other brands are hard to obtain.

@devinc.brewer4437 5 ай бұрын
That's a good question. Not something I haven't tried in all this time, but I'll be bold to say it should work considering it's the same design as rain bird but low end. you can take the guts from a maxi paw or mini paw and move them over to this canister. I advise that because the riser seal and sleeve nut are reputable for failing while rain bird uses an actual gasket that's more reliable.

Not enough pressure. Tension spring had to be adjusted in order for the arm to hit harder and move the head in reverse.
@NelsonBigGunP200Fan

They did good at designing the PJ arm. It shoots the water straight in front of the head. Unlike most of the " PJ Spoon" sprinklers made now (and even the Zinc models) shoot the water to the side or at an angle, defeating the purpose of the PJ arm to begin with. Nice head though! I have seen one of these on ebay and that was a long time ago.

another sprinkler collector friend of mine found a craigslist ad and sent it to me that had the green case versions with the Alpha II head inside with the PJ tube. I tried to get the guy to sell and ship me one but he never got back to me. They were the Western Brassworks design heads, the U61-DP (I think P meant PJ tube arm). I think he wanted to sell the whole lot not just 1. I don't have that kind of cash to buy them all. I have only need for one. Unless I get them super cheap then I can resell them and keep 1 for myself. It's a shame.

Devin here, sorry for late notice of your comment. Hope you can reach out and offer a price higher than 50 dollars. these are pretty hard to find heads and the price may be enticing to the seller. I had to pay 70 for mine. I'm sure that's a lot than what the head was worth initially but I don't come across listings of these heads very often
