What memories. On a group trip to Niagara Falls, I sat in the back seat on the way up and back with my girlfriend listening to an eight track of The Association's greatest hits. If I could only go back, EVEN for just one day! Doesn't get much better than that folks!

I first heard the song as a young child in the mid-70's on the CBC and was overcome. I only learned the identity of the song years later. Now in my 50's and as an avid collector of records from all eras and a classical piano player I still regard this song as one of my favorites and to me the most Canadian sounding song ever recorded.

what a shame that there's no clean, stereo tracks to remix today. Just this sorry mono version. One of the most iconic Toronto 60s songs of all time. Saw them as a kid at the old Eaton's Auditorium (on the 7th floor of the old Eaton's College St.) and was totally blown away. This band live was sublime. They were flat out thrilling. Saw George Oliver on the Danforth before COVID and he was still the consummate showman and his voice was as powerful as ever.

And rightly so! I was given the album as a present, probably shortly after it came out, and have loved it ever since. This song is certainly a highlight. I was too young to see the band at the time - at least on my own, and I doubt my parents would have taken me even if I did manage to find mention of a gig - but have since, in the last 25 years, become good friends with Gene Martynec.

Actually I think this song is very relevant to today. It was released in 1968 a year of demonstrations through out the United States and, indeed, the world. "Cops out with the megaphones . Telling people stay inside their home Man, can't they see the world's on fire?"

I wonder how on Earth is Molly Johnson able to pronounce the word "afternoon" the North American way in the lyrics because the way how the melody is crafted, the word "afternoon" lends it self to being pronounced as "ah-fternoon" whenever I sing the first line in my head 'cause it flows more smoothly like that.
@Picnicl4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like Brian reimagined/developed this in to Wake the World for their 1968 album Friends.

We are all animals, of course, but what we call wild animals live in the moment. They don't look in the past or think of the future. Very hard for us not to do these things.
