What sport is this, Football (Soccer) or Rugby?

As a long-time fan of the tournament (1967), it was in the 60s and 70s that I heard the most beautiful Land of My Fathers. There was a kind of meditation in that song, the sobriety of the Welsh people gave it an extraordinarily solemn dimension, there was something grandiose emanating from the Arms Spark, quite unlike what happens now where people don't miss an opportunity to be seen by the cameras with no respect for their anthem, its words or its song. These days, it's not supporters who are present, but clowns with paint jobs and ridiculous hairstyles, whose egos are matched only by their imbecility and disrespect. In recent years, the end of the anthem has been changed, giving the yellers a chance to express themselves. What a far cry from the magic of the 60s and 70s. I've always thought that the tournament couldn't be what it is without those moments of magic that will forever be etched in legend. Over the last few years, changes in behaviour in rugby stadiums, where we've seen a sort of Americanisation of supporters, whose lamentable attitudes are relayed by TV cameras, have contributed to completely undoing the magic of the tournament. O tempora O mores

Thank you Stéphane for this comment, but I still find the observation a little harsh. Of course, things have changed but it seems to me that respect and emotion still reign in the stadiums today. Particularly with the anthems, we must not forget that Flower of Scotland has only been sung since 1990, that the music stops quickly to allow the audience to bring an extra layer of soul to the players through the force of singing. As for the cameras on the clowns in the stadium, it's an epiphenomenon that should not be taken too much into account. Likewise, mixing and sharing between opposing supporters remains essential and with as much depth as ever. In my opinion, from my little experience.

Land of song and dance, Land of our fathers It does not matter whether you are Gwynhenseg, Ddyfedeg, Powyseg or Gwyneddeg, we are all finally united as one proud nation, after so much infighting and betrayal from the Saxons

And this is exactly why as a teenaged Englishman I always supported Wales in the Home internationals...... that, and the fact that Wales epitomised a rugby nation - tough and fair.

I remember those days. No need for a soloist, or any assistance. The singing erupted from the stands and has never been bettered. You can't stage manage the true feeling of my people. And I was there!

I like the shot at the end where a man replaces his hat, having removed it for the singing of the national anthem. How times change - you probably would not see that these days.

The translation of what the commentator is saying: "Some furious demonstrations... We are telling me right now that the nationalists are demonstrating violently against the "God save the Queen". It's the first time we see that here at Arms Park. And here is the "Land of my Fathers", and now everyone is singing! So that's really great! Never seen that at Arms Park. Here is the Welsh national anthem. Then, the camera is fixing on the Welsh flag. We heard this wonderful choir which was rising to the sky, the Arms Park's grey sky, the Welsh national anthem."

I think many people misinterpret the nationalistic spirit here . It is not that the game of rugby in any way represents the Welsh people as a nation . It is more that the language of Cymru gets heard loud and clear on an international stage .

There are a great number of male voice choirs in Wales I think. More recently the enchantment of female voices have been added which was the missing component.
