Hi, my quartz services start from £110, mechanical from £145 (September 2024). But for a service like the one in the video, include polishing etc. around £350. My contact details are in the description if you would like to discuss further.

Excellent work Joseph, so heartening to see this Record restored to its former glory, vintage watches were made to be used and enjoyed. I have a particular fondness for the Record brand, I have a 1949 Record Geneve Datofix so I was glad I found your video showing the repair of this Record watch.

Three questions. 1 - after removing the screws on the case back, how do you remove the back? I can't slip a case knife under anything to pry it up. I stopped and put the screws back in. 2 - my watch band' pivots pins don't have a slot to unscrew on either side. How do you remove these kinds of pins? 3 - where can I buy an new cartier KD95KK97 strap? The alligator leather is falling apart 😞
@JosephCooperWatchRepair
@JosephCooperWatchRepair 3 ай бұрын
Hi, 1 - it should just fall out if you turn it upside down, or use a piece or rodico 2 - the screws might be covered in dirt making them hard to see, or they might push out 3 - eBay/auction, and there are some ok third party ones to keep you going whist you search Hope this helps

Hi Joseph, is it possible to clean the dial when it turned yellow/ grey because of aging? I want to buy a second hand watch but I am unsure, if it will look the way I want. Thank you, Eva 🤗
@JosephCooperWatchRepair
@JosephCooperWatchRepair 5 ай бұрын
Hi Eva, it is not usually possible to clean ageing off dials. It is a chemical reaction between the varnish, paint, and UV light. Unless there is physical dirt on the dials I tend to leave dials alone. At least if we call it patina it sounds fancy. Let me know if you need any more help 👍🏼

Excellent video. I have a 1500 series WD1221-K-20 classic and might be interest in getting it refurbed. I have had it over 30 years now. Recent issue I notice the crown had difficulty screwing down ( it hasn't been cross threaded). It screws down after applying a bit of of inward pressure so its probably dirt in the crown itself or is there a micro o ring in the crown to seal it that's gone hard or perished?
@JosephCooperWatchRepair
@JosephCooperWatchRepair 7 ай бұрын
Hi, it could be a few things, but two common things are... (1) as you said the o-ring or crown gasket could have degraded becoming hard, rather than supple. (2) typical a grease is applied to the threads of the pendent tube to ease screwing in the crown, this can end up clogging the threads over time. If you want to get in touch my details are linked in the description, at the bottom of my website.

Does the reversing wheel the pink one is made out of plastic or metal? Why is it pink?
@JosephCooperWatchRepair

The reversing wheels are coated metal wheels. I thought the coating was similar to Teflon, but this might be incorrect after having a quick Google.

Update: during this video I did not oil the co-axial escape wheel, this was incorrect. Since then, the watch was partially disassembled and the co-axial escape wheel lubricated. That watch is now back together with a rate of +3.2 s/d and an amplitude of 302 degrees averaged over 5 positions.

Hi Joseph! I have a very similar Santos that runs a little fast, even after Cartier servicing. It's the same movement as the one in the video. Is there any way for me to slow it down without having to remove any part of the movement? I have no problem taking the back off, just dont want to be taking anything else off! Thanks!
@JosephCooperWatchRepair
@JosephCooperWatchRepair 9 ай бұрын
Hi, it is possible to adjust the performance of the watch through regulating the balance. I have shown this process on my “Vintage MuDu Watch” video, or you can search for “watch regulation” for other videos on the matter. I would recommend that you don’t try this on your Cartier as it is so easy to damage the hairspring. If you did want to give it a go at least get a junk watch off eBay to practice on first. If you want to chat more on the regulation drop me an email, my details are on my website linked in the description.

Lovely. I have this watch, almost exactly the same. plated case, same back same movement(60464E 1965) and full Arabic face. The hands are the blued variety and a red plain second hand that I'd guess is not original. Sadly the case has been "loved" quite a bit, crystal and face are very good though!.... it keeps time like a good 'un. I'm very tempted to re-case it. Would love to find a good condition case. Any ideas? thanks for the video.
@JosephCooperWatchRepair
@JosephCooperWatchRepair 9 ай бұрын
Thank you! Great to hear your Smiths is running well, shame about the case. If your very lucky you might find a new old stock (NOS) case one eBay. Otherwise it is looking for a donor watch at online or physical auction. Either way quite expensive, but you might find a non-runner that has a good condition case which could be reasonable.

Hi, I didn’t show it in the video, but I did timegraph the watch and straight after the service and it was performing well. Then a few days later, after the oils had settled in, the timegraph results were an average of -2.6s/d, 306 degrees of amplitude, and 0.1ms of beat error over three positions, without any adjustment.

I'm a bit puzzled how debris gets onto the dial of a premium watch thats meant to be waterproof. I have an Avia I've had for 50 years, and my dads Rotary (never serviced and working well) even older both looking like new.

Hi, it's good to hear that you take care of you watches, unlike the previous owner of this Seamaster. My guess as to what happed to this watch is this; the crown was undone and the watch got wet, the owner had a less thoughtful watchmaker take a look at it, they managed to scratch the anti-reflective coating of the crystal and the dial trying to get the watch dry. Then had it serviced where too much oil was used and wasn’t recased properly, leading to the condition that I received the watch in.
