Is this a wadly loop radio?
@oe3wyc
@oe3wyc 3 ай бұрын
Hi, no, not a Wadley Loop. It uses a crystal oscillator (4MHz above the intended band) to mix the signal to a variable first IF of 4...4.6 MHz, and from there to a fixed second IF of around 50kHz. So each band needs its crystal. There are 5 free positions to add e.g. broadcast bands. I had a 16 MHz XTAL on hand, which gives me 12...12.6MHz for testing on amplitude modulation...

@@oe3wyc That gives me faith as I don’t have facilities for yagis only simple dipoles here..I used QCX mini for 20mtrs, vertical for /p operation similar to the Mad dog coils..Am total qrp as I started out, I had problems with alarms being triggered above 30 watts, construction the operation gave me a lot of satisfaction.. Hi Ken, if I remember correctly, there is a pin-header where you need to solder a jumper from the 12V input voltage to the "DVM" pin. I'm sure it is somewhere in the manual, otherwise I wouldn't have it. Enjoy your QCX. Even though I have a QMX now, I like the soft sound of the QCX a lot... 73 Willy, oe3wyc + oe1wyc

Sounds nice but the little tunning knob would put me off.
@oe3wyc
@oe3wyc Жыл бұрын
Well, one can't compare this tuning knob with that on the main transceiver at home. It is indented. But that is a good thing for a portable rig. You can step through the entire CW section of a band very quickly in 500Hz or 1kHz increments. Most stations today anyway are working on integer kHz (or multiples of 500Hz) frequencies, so you won't miss anything. It's very practical. I like it. Also on other portable rigs like the G90, the HB1B and so on

Hi Willy. Great video.. The excitement you showed at the end was the same as mine when my 20 Meter QCX came to life and I had my first QSO. When I started in QRP many years ago with a direct conversion RX and manually switched TX in my Lake DTR 7, I could only dream of the performance and functionality of the QRP Labs products we enjoy today.. I have several QRP Rigs in addition to the QCX Mini including Elecraft K1. KX1 & KX2 so do I need another QRP Rig? 🤔 Hell yeah! For me as I’m sure it is for you? The pleasure is in the build and then making contacts on something we built. 72 my friend Hope to work you soon? G0HFL 👍

Hi Willy. Nice to see the QMX in action with the new firmware. I've installed VS 010 last week. Here also some problems with the keyer. I have to make the letter and word spacing a little longer to prevent missing or longer dashes. Another thing I have: sometimes audio won't start up when switching the rig on. The only thing to get the rig working again is do a factory reset. Not sure if I did something wrong or is it a bug in the firmware? Btw I'm enjoying the rig verder much and nice to have power/ SWR measurements now.

Hi Durk! I think, if I do not switch the QMX off, when it is on 80m, the missing RX-audio thing does not happen. Try switching to another band, before turning of, or when it happened, switch to another band, turn off and on... Thanks, will try with bigger spaces! 73

My assembled QMX is in the 200+ shipping position. There's been enough chatter on the forum to dissuade me from building it. It was an acknowledgement of aging eyes that convinced me to just get one assembled. Nice radio series. If a new ham was restricted by funds I'd recommend this series of radios. They'll get you on the air very easily and because it's CW, even qrp signals do well.

Thanks for posting this video! I was just wondering if you built this for 12 or 9 volts? If 12 volts what are you using? From what I'm reading there's not alot info regarding exceeding the 12 volts, ex 13.8 volts. Perhaps a Buck converter to solve this issue?

Will power the QMX with 3 LiPo cells (like I do with the QCXs). So, if they are fully charged, we will be at around 12.6V. I think this should be no problem for a "12V" QMX. Here for the first QSO it was on a lab power supply set to 12V, but I also checked it at 14V (for a short while, even in TX) , and it was not destroyed immediately ;-)

I don't think this ANL would help much with splatter. It is a quite simple limiter. Short peaks which are significantly larger than the average signal are quenched using a diode.
