This includes my decision not to perform root canals, a choice informed by in-depth understanding of their potential long-term implications. I maintain a deep respect for the expertise and skills of endodontists in this specialized area. ​@@DrPascalNguyen I'm glad to hear that you are not imposing your personal values on patients who want to save their teeth and those who enjoy their own natural dentition instead of the natural products you may sell along with implants. I'm afraid, however, that your values of not believing in saving teeth with root canals while having respect for endodontists are a form of cognitive dissonance. Furthermore, the mistake of the holistic dentistry is a lack of understanding of the recommended alternatives whiling focusing only on the procedures they shun. All life is a tradeoff. There are no perfect solutions. 45% of Implants that replace missing teeth cause periimpplantitis, which is microbiologically indistinguishable from apical periodontitis present in 10-20% of root canals that do not work. Furthermore, World Health Organization Reports, year after year, that people with missing teeth have a lower life expectancy than those with teeth. So, how does removing teeth that can potentially be saved help exactly? Maybe a decision should be made as to whether someone with expertise in this area can at least try to save some of these teeth? If not, then obviously pull them! But why pull 80-90% of teeth that can be saved because 10-20% of all teeth can't be saved with a root canal? That kind of bargain makes no sense to me. Lastly, instead of "not believing" in root canals, as if they are done by the Tooth Fairy, maybe learning the proper techniques that allow them to work predictably in most cases vs. sloppy work that doesn't allow predictable results would be a better approach? You may be interested in watching this video that tries to address the Weston Price's 1925 study that holistic dentists constantly quote. We all need to be better at what we do. All medical procedure have a success rate and a failure rate.... smart dentists learn best ways to improve their success and refer to specialists when a case is more complicated. Smart patients, on the other hand, show up for follow up visits and periodic recalls so those small percentage of cases that would not work can be identified sooner ,rather than later, and those teeth would be removed.
